Wonderfull contest. It's a pity I haven't seen it eariler. Well, I think I will try to copy it on my ground.

Best wishes.

Winner will be announced tonight. I just didn't find the time last night to re-review all the entries at once to decide.

I hate You tube! I still have not been able to get the other two videos to work....

Well, I had a chance to go back and try and it wasn't You tube's fault... the files from one of my disk has issues. I went back and redid the middle part with what I could use. It is almost too cheesy for me to watch.

Didn't look cheasy to me, you got out there and got it done.

Awesome stuff. I hope you get the rest of the videos fixed.

dresnor do you like that emergency bivy? did it work well?

There are three versions now. The newest is breathable. Version one and two work really well, but there is a slight condensation problem. I went out a couple weeks ago and the hammock underquilt thing I made up was a big fail...didn't work at all and it was getting cold (about 42). I had no intention of another night in the woods freezing my ass off, So I broke into my emergency bag and get one of my Version 1 emergency bivys. It's really big...you can pull it up around your head. I stood in it, then hopped in my cheap walmart sleeping bag I keep in my trunk, and pulled both up around me...then jumped in the hammock. IMMEDIATE difference! I was snug as a bug in a heatsheets emergency bivy in a sleeping bag in a hammock. Felt a little damp in the morning, but man, I was warm and slept GOOD.

I have an older version definetly not breathable. Since it is a vapor barrior I did have a condensation problem that did lead to me feeling more chilled than a regular sleeping bag would. Since I don't carry a sleeping bag or anything else to sleep in during a day hike and I do carry this it was better than nothing. Embers from a fire? Forget about it. Mine now has holes in it.

Even with these problems I will continue to carry it since it weighs almost nothing.

I have to agree that it was a good experience, it just feels weird watching me talk about it. The most important thing is that I found a few things that I would have liked to have and a couple of things I could leave out. I would not have been able to find this out if I wouldn't have done it. I also am going to get the emergency bag like you used. I had the blanket that I used for ground cover and it would be fine for covering someone who was wet or sitting but not for staying out all night!

Getting out there and getting dirty is the only way to test out your gear. Having all the gear in the world dosn't mean crap if you don't understand it's limitations.

My emergency bag is just that, for emergencies. If you want something to sleep in invest is a nice sleeping bag or woobie. Dealing with condensation for one unplanned night out is one thing. Dealing with it every night spent outside is another. It isn't as comfortable against the skin as a sleeping bag either. For it's intended purpose it is a great thing to carry.

Wow,
Really good job guys. Good job Clich!

Damn. I dropped the ball. Between school, work, the kid, and just procrastination and forgetfulness I haven't judged this yet. I promise to do so tonight since I viewed all the entries but not side by side at one time. So tonight is the night folks. And just because I am starting a new contest as well.

ok after careful consideration, the one entry that encompasses everything i asked for, is.........dresnor. Kick ass jeremy as always. you seem so at home in the woods and so adept. You skills and innovation are always impressive. keep doing what your doing brother.

Every one else, awesome job. So much so that i wanted to hand out a second prize. So OLJ you get a beckerhead bottle or hat, your choice.

I hope that you all learned something, if at least what you can do with what you got and what poundage you can shave by losing things you dont need. The purpose of this exercise was to open eyes, since as of late i find myself shaving every ounce of unneeded weight and really picking and choosing careful what i NEED versus what would be nice to have.

Jeremy you get a machax, tweener, or bk5. you choice. email your address. Same for you OLJ
