Bear Grylls was fired from Discovery

I don't like him either, but if you actually read the article it says he was fired for not participating in two events that he didn't want to do. So there you go. Maybe Bear doubled down and went with his conscience for once instead of his ego and the TV execs canned his ass. I wouldn't fault Bear for this one, more likely its the other way around.

where am i going to learn my outdoor skills now!?!?! i think he had worn out his welcome. i wonder how this will effect gerber's sales? it seems like 80% of their stuff has his face plastered all over it.

Well I guess im the only one who thinks it was still a fun show to watch.. Heck of a lot better then most shows at the same time. I also picked up an idea or two from him. There is something to learn from everyone and everything.

For the hard time we give him and the show; It is sad that at least some of his decent info wont be passed on or inspire others to get out doors..Though I hope whoever these weekend warriors are, they dont jump around and do some of the unsafe things he did.

He isn't dead. He'll be back in one form or another. For those who will miss him, you can buy his clothes at REI and Wal-Mart and he has another new book coming out soon. Maybe he will do a trifecta of shows with Cody, Les and whatshisname. Personally, I liked the Will Ferell episode best. Meanwhile he gets a vacation betwen his island off Wales, his houseboat on the Thames and his shack in Malibu. Sux to be him! :D

I always enjoyed his shows even when he did some stupid stuff. His show that he filmed in AL got me interested and I spent some time down there. It is a very pretty area. I plan on a trip down there in the next couple of weeks after spring sets in pretty well.

Bear was a pretty cool guy. Of all the ppl that knock him is be interested to know who's actually been deployed in the sh$! an knows how to do that stuff in the first place. An on top of the fact that he was a good guy the show was better then 99% of crap that's on tv. I can give respect to anyone whos come up through the ranks and made good for their family through hard work.

Just the simple, barefoot son of Tory politician Sir Michael Grylls and Lady Sarah Grylls who somehow worked his way up through the ranks from wealthy aristocrat to TV star, with three years as a part-time reservist thrown in for good measure. Such a success story. Such a struggle to be him.

Yep,silver spoon in mouth baby but still entertaining. Better to filter through his shows and highlight what NOT to do. Any normal person in a survival situation would be an imbecile to go jumping around like a baboon on meth. A broken limb is much less enjoyable when one does not have a slew of support personnel standing by. I actually always wondered about the poor saps following hem around with the heavy camera equipment and so on. Still, fun entertainment, even the enema episode. His groans made it truly fun!
At least Les is on his own, basically goes hungry for 7 days, then goes home.

I was referencing him being a soldier. Does your family heritage permit you to be judged if you've gone through some of the most rugged field training conducted by modern special forces? Last time I checked you can't fake being a part of SAS but thanks for taking a shot at me bro. And I made the statement as I'm a soldier and spent a few yrs in the spec ops community. It doesn't matter where you come from it matters how much heart you have. I'm sure his family connections helped his film career but I assure you when you're out in the suck ppl make it harder for ppl w eligible backgrounds not easier. I'm pretty aggravated by your statement but I'm gonna stop while I'm ahead and take off my following of this thread. Just because you've been a member for awhile doesn't give you any priveledge or weight to try and knock an opinion.

I'm not knocking the guy, but I really want to know what the projects were. The man forges his reputation by drinking pee on television. What did Discovery come up with to make him back out?

He was a stinking reservist and never completed the training.

Lots of real heros to admire now days, and he ain't one of them. Chris

I'm surprised to hear this, as I imagine that show is a big earner for them. I guess no-one is expendable!

Sweet mother of pearl - Man vs. Wild was just a tv show. Not a black ops training video. Not a "how to drink elephant urine to survive" documentary. It was just a tv show, the purpose of which was to attract viewers to generate ad revenue for the network. And it was very successful at achieving that goal.

Jack Bower on 24 didn't actually disarm a nuclear device with his teeth either. And no one would swim through a cave with a handmade torch if given the choice. Its all fiction. Just saying.

Its pretty corny to dissect the morality, veracity and wilderness creds of a tv character. Bear Grylls, Nutnfancy and a bunch of other entertainers are castigated, dissected and masticated as if their fictional personas are somehow relevant here in the real world.

They aren't. Its just entertainment.

In the case of Jack Bower you are absolutely correct, in the case of Bear Grylls you could not be more wrong. One is portrayed as fiction the other is not. Chris

The "wilderness survival" angle has hit the proverbial wall ... Discovery needs to make room for more doomsday / prepper programs.

I just find it funny that as I'm busting my ass over here, my wife shoots me an email about this and she says "...good, maybe they'll bring Les Stroud back" :D I had a good chuckle...how many wives prefer Bear over Les (well hell, they both show their ass!)?
