Bear Grylls was fired from Discovery

Thanks Rock for saying exactly what I was trying to, in a clear, concise and tactful manner. I sometimes have a problem putting my thoughts into written word, especially tactful written word, which I know surprises all of yall very much. LOL Chris

Ill miss Bear Grylls. He's an enthusiastic and likable personality. He's done alot of work for the scouts and has gotten more people interested in the outdoors than most celebrities will ever do.

Yes, most techniques on Man vs. Wild, Born Survivor, etc. are reckless and can get you injured or killed, but ive got enough braincells to know the difference between entertainment and a instructional show. And it still beats most of the other crap on tv.

When Ray Mears publicly dismissed him as a "boy scout" and a "showman", Bear replied that "...I know all the inside stories because we’ve had the same crew on a lot of things so I could really go to town but I don’t want to. He’s a great guy and he does a great job and it’s so silly to get into a silly catfight." He could have given Mears a dose of his own medicine, but he didnt. That speaks volumes of his character.

I hope he'll be back in another format. And i hope Discovery keeps churning out the "survival" shows.

WHOA, hold up a minute, I am not devaluing anyone's service to his country, besides Bear Grylls of course. I AM devaluing someone's service to their country as a discriminator for being a survival expert. If you say I was a SERE instructor at Camp McCall, or even I completed SERE training, I might give you a little credit, although I know some real tools that successfully completed SERE training, if you are a bonafied member of a Special Forces Group, especially CAG, I will give you a little cred.

If you say I was an MP stationed in Panama so I know more about survival than you, or I was in the reserves so I know more about survival than you, regardless of unit or affiliation, then I don't care and don't think you know one iota more, probably less, than any hillbilly or countryboy in the US.

The military is big place with lots of jobs and I am awful leery of anyone that puts their military service at the begining of their resume unless it is for the specific job they did in the military. Chris

agreed 100000%

I for one think he seems like a cool dude, and one thing for sure he is a hell of an athlete. The show is not for everyone, personally I found it entertaining although the past 3 seasons it has gotten a lot more ridiculous but still if you don't like it don't watch it. I don't see any reason to bash the guy.

I'll miss the show too. Great entertainer, and think he has helped spark some interest in the outdoors. It would almost be humorous, if it were not so sad, that anytime someone has success in doing the same thing others only dream about, that success generally only results in a couple of feelings in those that can't do it..Good will or Jealosy. Great media coverage will give plenty of reasons to fan the flame either way. In view of integrity, if how he ducked the opporunity to play Tit for tat with Mears on the comments is an indication of how he conducts himself in other areas, I think there is more there than he gets credit for.

I wouldn't read more into that last bit than was there. He just refused to be baited in an interview. That and he is a Boy Scout. He was named Chief Scout at the 2011 World Jamboree. It is hard to take offense at being called something you are proud of.

The show may be gone, but its likely that we have not seen the last of him yet.

For the hard time we give him and the show; It is sad that at least some of his decent info wont be passed on or inspire others to get out doors..Though I hope whoever these weekend warriors are, they dont jump around and do some of the unsafe things he did.

I hope they do it'll stop the Darwin awards becoming too boring. What annoys me about the show is the occasional wanton ecological destruction that deosn't even get a mention as to the damage being caused. Then, half-witted wannabe's head out there and try to copy what he's done. I've seen long stands of birch ruined and stunted because people don't know how to take the bark properly and that's not the usual fragile ecosystem Bear often parachutes into.

.
He does, as noted, model extremely foolish behavior that would decrease the odds of survival.

True. And I was never worried about adults with discernment and critical thinking skills. What bothered me about B.G. was his possible influence on pre pubescent\adolescent youth. It's not cool to be put in a wheel chair at 14 because you copied a B.S. tv show.

Because he has no integrity and is a liar, has nothing to do with the show. Chris
is it him or is it the network? Remember this is the same network that brings us Doomsday Preppers, granted I like that show but they seem to go out of their way to make those folks look like nut cases

I believe it is him, I haven't watched since the first season, it was so bad I couldn't stomach anymore. Men in bear suits, "wild" horses that allow you to walk right up on them, hand drills that produce piles of coals, and the list goes on and on, not to mention his normal running full speed, and climbing and jumping off things. IMO the show was insulting for taking for granted the absolute stupidity of the general public. Bear's honesty has been questioned in some of his other endeavors as well. Chris

If you would have been there back when Jesus said "Let he, who is with out sin, trow the first stone" You would just have started chugging away wouldn't you ?

I'm going to miss Bears show, I liked it more then most on TV.

To be totally honest, when anyone sets themselves up to make money off of a celebrity status, they also open themselves up to harsh critiques and examination of their credentials. Most especially when those credentials are often repeated and embellished to improve their market value. It is established in the courts that when a person becomes a "product", then that product is open for examination of it's claims. If the person's (product's) claims of creds are legit, then they have nothing to fear from examination. If the claims are kerfluffle, they have no basis to complain about the false claims being exposed.

Did you think I purposely decieved people on my tv show? Oh that's right, I don't have a tv show therefore I have not purposely decieved people on tv, so it stands to reason in this particular case I am without sin. Chris

Uh..........if I was in a real survival situation I think any of these guys, Les, Dave, Cody, Ray, Mykel and Bear would be great to have with you. Yeah Bear is a show-boat. But none of the others can do alot of the things he does. The man is fearless, many times to an extreme, but if you've spent some time in the brush, you know he knows his stuff. I have really enjoyed ALL of these guys shows. I'd love to see Cody go for a week with Ray and both of them be forced to stick it out. Pure entertainment!!!

I have never seen any of his tv shows

He is to be commended for his work with the Scouts
He gets more kids outdoors doing the stuff we value so highly
