Bear is back (Man vs. Wild marathon on now)

I think Bear is behaving a little better in this series- admitting that he's getting help, giving credit for said help, not telling tall tales about killing domestic animals and calling them wild. I noticed he's doing a whole lot less of the dumb stuff too.

Maybe this season will be a tad better.

This isn't a new season, this is a replay of last season. The voiceovers are newly added, but the footage is the same. At least that is what I think is going on.

If these venues were from last season they may have been episodes I didn't see.

My son and I were watching one of the episodes and I noticed the raft he was on was made from logs with very straight clean cuts, like a saw. That is when I started getting suspicious of the show. My son is a medical resident and said the bacteria in the elephant poop would make him so sick (fecal coliform) with vomiting and diarrhea that this would hasten the dehydration and kill him faster. Also drinking urine is a no no. But its still better than "Survivor".

Off topic, but what residency program is your son in?

He just did a daring jump across an eight foot gully. After telling us how risky he was, he cleared it easily. However, the funny part was that his cameraman apparently was able to make the jump as well complete with heavy camera, tape, battery, etc...

And as much as I like to poke fun at Bear, the way he made a fire in the Mexico episode was cool. I had never seen someone make a fire with what he called a firesaw, basically two pieces of yucca rubbed against each other. I guess is was just a slightly different variation of a fire bow or fire drill, but it was still something I had never seen before.

I really enjoyed when the voice over said "I'm not going to stay the night, but if you needed to, this is how you would build a shelter."

lol

What episode was that in? I was only watching Bear during the commercials and halftime of the football game.

The Scottish highlands episode. There was also the one about the rabbit.

Thanks. After having seen quite a bit of the show tonight, I can say that it is entertaining. It would be a terrible idea to watch it and try to duplicate most of his stunts or plan on learning much from him, but from a pure television standpoint, you can do worse. I still will take Les over Bear any day of the week, but I guess there is room for both of them on the Discovery Channel.

Also, I really don't have a problem with him showing how to build a shelter and then not staying in it. As long as the techniques he shows for building it are correct, we know that he could survive in it. Him sleeping in the shelter is not important to me. I just have a problem that they lied to us about what he was doing. Same with snaring the rabbit. If he was honest from the start, I would respect him a lot more.

I saw lots of Rhino poop in my time on the continent and never had the inclination to drink the liquid. The sheer mass is impressive. It would make for some pretty outrageous dung flinging. We're glad to see Bear back on the tube. Les gets a little whiney and depressed. With all of that sleeping I think he would wind up like that kid in the bus in Alaska.

I think it will make him look worse by showing the same episodes with voice overs. Its basically just pointing out all the stuff he faked.

But at least hes making an effort.

I agree, but it is interesting to see the same episodes I have seen before and see how much of the stuff is faked. If he had just been honest. Too late now.

My favorite bit is in the Scottish episode where he strips down and walks into the bog! Hilarious!!!! :D:D:D

Since I found out the elephant dung was really mushed up Baby Ruths, I just can't watch with the same level of awe.

I haven't read this one here but the show with him being a stranded skier was pretty funny. He decided to follow a river down a rock face but, when he started he had ski boots on and when he hit the bottom they were hiking boots. After I noticed that I was suspicious.

Now Survivorman it pretty cool. I haven't noticed anything odd on his show yet. Some real good stuff though.

Man vs Wild is on right now and he is supposed to be in Mexico and making a rope out of Yucca leaves to tie to a rock to measure the depth of the water at the bottom of a waterfall. Yep, he jumped in!!!

Well anyway I can pick up some info from both of them.
