  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

Beauty of Old, Worn Knives

Old and worn doesn't have to mean worn out. These are all at least 60 years old.

This one was in for a lil spa treatment. Cleaned up some without making it brand new seeming. Also built two new sheaths for this knife. The customer couldn't decide if she wanted basket stamped or flower carved so she decided on both:

My great grandfather’s knives. He was sheriff of Washington County, Oklahoma in the mid twentieth century. I don’t find these two knives to be particularly beautiful from an aesthetic point of view, but they are representative of that generation. They clearly viewed knives as tools to be used and used and used until they just couldn’t be used any longer. They also weren’t great at sharpening knives. IMG_4974.jpeg

Their asthetics come from telling the story of your grandfather. They both do that eloquently. I wish I had my dad's pocket knife.

Giuseppe's knife!! He was my grandfather, whom I never met!! Handmade in Sicily, in the late 1800s, he gave it to my father, who in turn passed it on to me when he saw my interest in knives!! It is next to a Barlow, so you can see the size!! It's 140 years old or so!!GiuseppesKnife.jpgGiuseppesKnifeC.jpg
I've never used it, but I keep it in a display case, where I can see it!!
