Beck TRACKER

I keep hearing about the ' original Tom Brown Medicine Knife " and different versions of the Beck-made Tracker. anyone got any info or ( more preferably, hehe ) pictures of either the old Medicine Knife design, or different Beck versions of the Tracker Knife design?

This thread has cleared up a lot of Q's I've had since first reading about "Tom Brown's Tracker"... And having seen it before, along with other names, I was wondering...

As to waiting for the knockoffs... Has anybody flipped thru Blade Magazine? (I think as opposed to KI or Tac. Knives) Someone is already advertising them, but I'm at work and don't have my copy, or I'd share the knifemaker's name... but it is pictured on the add!

N2SHARP, I saw the add you mentioned in KIllustrated. I think the price is a misprint or what not. I know for a fact that the blade thickness is 1/4. I'm going to call Tracker School Tues and find out.

Can you get that information for us tomorrow, sir?

... very stoked about this knife. I saw the TOPS version and wanted it. I saw the Beck version and wanted it. I even saw the Jensen Elite version and wanted it. I saw a variation on the theme from Strider / Dyer in their Tiger and wanted one. After all this, I found out the original design was chisel grind and I passed. Regardless of who makes it, the design is obviously very popular and gets requested a lot. It is just like any of the R.E.K.A.T. knives like the Hobbit fighter, etc... that still has custom makers doing the design. I just decided the knife wasn't for me, though. I am sure anybody could make one but if they wanted the original prop from the movie, they will have to wait till United comes out with theirs. I, personally, would want a knife that works and not some prop shown in a movie. The knife is intriguing and I would have liked to have tested it out. I don't need another chisel grind, though. Had one too many and they were not to my liking. I hope this knife takes off as there hasn't been too many real knives that have made it from our community to Hollywood. That would be something nice to see.

The interior edge of the Beck WSK is more of a "V" grind than a chisel. The older version was hollow ground. The new grind should prove to be stronger.

I assume you are thinking of a chisel edge like that on an Emerson/Benchmade? If so, that is not the same edge that is on the WSK.

Sorry, I only saw your post today. I'll check my magazines when I get home tonite and see if I can find it - I'll post it tomorrow...

Check out page 91 of the latest (July?) edition of Blade magazine:

Horse Head Creek Knives (see also horseheadcreekknives.com) advertises a really nice looking Damascus version... Don't know anything about them, but I've seen their ads for some time, and the damascus always looks good... As to showing a "Tracker" in their ad, I thought I'd just add that to this thread!

I'm a little disappointed in the Loyd Thomson Horsehead Creek Knives "Tracker". If you look closely at that pic in Blade, the pins on the handle are not equa-distant. They are spaced irregularly. Also the sawteeth are not spaced evenly either. Loyd's damascus is beautiful though, and I am a fan of his other work.

Thanks for the details, ya'll. The local Books-a-Million is on the other side of town, I might have time to run by there tonight. Thanks again!

Also, if anyone has any pics, please post! :D

Has anyone posted about the update that the original "Tom Brown" Tracker probably wasn't even designed by Tom Brown?
