I'm in NSW, you have to be a member of a hunting club to get a licence to bowhunt. You don't need a licence to own a bow, but you probably won't be able to legally shoot anywhere. NSW offers Mostly deer, goat, rabbit and pig. I'm a member of Nepean hunters. Unless of course your on your own acreage and its your private property. (Not a suburban backyard though). Then your fine.
Im also a member of a local archery club., this is not neccesary to be licenced, you do need an annual membership though, but I do it for target practice and if I need to sight my bow in ect.. We also do 3D shooting. Sort of like golf but shooting 3D rubber animals set up in the bush.
I shoot a bear legion compound bow, carbon fibre arrows with a nice led 5 pin sight, with a 60 pound draw. Great fun even if you only target shoot.
To be frankly honest I have been toying with the idea of getting a bow for quite some time I just have to put a bit more concerted effort into researching what would be the right one for me. And as you very eloquently put it, its that primal feeling that allures me the most plus it also gives the critter(s) more of a sporting chance whilst hunting it/them.
Another big reason is also because it is an absolute nightmare to get a firearms license here in Aus too. Our Government sure as s#!t don't want you to be armed. As far as I'm aware though you don't need a license for a bow. I think. Gas, you wanna chime in here mate? Do you need to be licensed for a bow over here?
