Becker BK-5 Magnum Camp Wins Award

that's almost 30 years of history kidz.

drink some koolaid!

Me too. I didn't realize how different it is from the Camillus version.

I used mine to make a pork tenderloin, shake'n'bake, dinner for the family. Damn fine cutter, and good woods knife to boot.

It's actually damn handy around the house if any of you need to sell it to yourself, or your wife. Big enough to half a cabbage in one shot and a wonderful up swept curve on the belly to rock back and forth over veggies. And still tough enough to make me feel safe carrying it alone in the bush. Need to feather sticks for a fire?, gut\fillet a fish?, cleanly slice the stem of wild mushrooms to avoid damaging the mycelium?, table cut a roast? etc. I still see it as a medium duty wood processor to be used with a bit of discretion. If someone else wants to baton it through huge chunks of bone dry hardwood, it's their knife. I have other thicker stock Becker's for heavy wood batoning that make more sense for this application. To me it's analogous to a mustang as opposed to a Clydesdale. And it's handsome in hand in a pirate sort of way. Yarrrrrrr !!! :D

it's a great knife.

i'm just waiting for the first person that tries to baton it through something you wouldn't even want to baton with a BK9, breaking it, and whining that it sucks, isn't thick enough, etc... i'm so waiting. that person will be banned :) it's not a heavy duty wood processor. it can baton (if if that seems kinda stupid). just be smart about it. oh, wait, i went and used that word ;) Beckerites will know better, but i swear, someone is going to read some review, think they're getting a Bussed knife or something, and snap it off in a vice or lawn mower or something ;) i mean, my gawd people. common sense.

I am back in town, and my Birthday Becker BK-5 is ordered along with Micarta for her.
Grats, for the Award its a helluva knife.

These, like the 3, are a knife I've consistently admired but never desired. I may Get the mini camp but the full size seems cumbersome for a knife I'd only use for food prep. Especially non stainless. Not to insult the 5 or the award. Just some thoughts I've been thinking.

Mostly Congrats on the award!

Handle one if you get a chance. The knife is so well balanced that it floats in the hand. As one exhibitor put it (quoting someone from the past), "it woos me to strike." :p

I remember wanting the old Blackjack version but never bought one. I really want one again. This is getting expensive.

For some, perhaps, but since its BKT's we are talking about and not Randall's, you could look at spending a little more than what dinner would cost for 4 people, as opposed to what it would cost to feed Guatemala for a month. :D

AH, Beckers.
