Becker Bk4 sale

Think imaginatively. Go down to the dumpsters and look for some pallets or roadkill furniture. Start chopping. Just gotta watch for springs and bolts. If anybody asks, just say "Some fool filled the dumpster with furniture and I'm making it fit better."

Actually I'm about to fill the dumpster with furniture. I might as well chop it up in my place. No one would ever think I was crazy for doing that.:D

So are these "promo" BK4s new production, or really old stock that was hiding in storage since the early days? My BK4s are the new Rhino lined/etched ones and I'm feeling like I really missed out............

52100, from what I gather (haven't received mine yet) they are older/smooth coating. I had ordered two intending to have a user and a keeper; then I learn that they had only one of the "promo" models available. Accordingly, I have already, pre-delivery, banished that Promo BK4 to the safe; no outings, no wood, no campfires, no fresh air - banished!

These are from a pre production run of the Ka bar BK-4. They used up the rest of the old coating and they already had them roll stamped. These were sold to us before the version we have today was available. I have 2. They are great.

Thanks for the replies guys. So am I safe in assuming there are NO more smooth finish stamped models out there, or did any distributors receive any to help sell off?

I completely understand the use-one-stash-one mentality.............I've done it with every model except the BK10 which went straight to the save pile (it's a new etched one).

The world will keep turning if I can't find a stamped BK4, but now that I know it was very recent near miss rather than a several year miss, I'd like to add one to the collection.

Well, Kabar wasn't kidding when they said that the shipping would be up to two weeks... I am still waiting (VERY PATIENTLY) for mine to come in...

Between this and the BK21, I think that Ethan Becker is cashing in on all of the patients that I have! Lol

I spoke too soon. I received my knife today.
I am a little bummed, I got some finish wear and a slightly broken tip out of the box...

Now I need to decide whether or not I care enough to exchange it for a new one...

Maybe this will just give me an excuse to strip and patina it already lol

Coating wear yes, but tip broken? Or did you mean the coating was "broken" at the tip? Or maybe the photo is just hard to see? The tip just doesn't look broken to me at all in that photo.

If you're going to make it a user, that doesn't look like something to bother with IMO. On the other hand if you were wanting it for a collection, then it might be worth seeing if they have any more roll stamped ones without a messed up coating.

It is just hard to see in the pic, but the tip is slightly broken.
There is also an odd bump on the spine... Where it was cut out wrong or something...

But I have decided that it is a user, the coating is in the process of being stripped, and it shall see glory in the field.
With a nice set of micarte grips at some point :-)

Mine has a small bump on the spine as well.

Since it's a 'promo', I just think of it as a 'feature' that didn't make it into production. ;)

Ah, you're right. I can see it not in the point of the blade, but the shadow. But from the looks of it it doesn't even extend past the secondary bevel so it should be fine :).

And glad to hear its going to be a user. Beckers just beg to be used.

Grats on the new steel .

I stripped mine pretty quickly. I tried cutting palm fronds and felt like the coating really hindered slicing flexible stuff, almost like someone glued sandpaper to the sides of the blade. I also played around with knocking the shoulders off (carbon steel is so easy to work with:)). I like it better now. I'm excited to work with it more. It handles so well is nice and light.

Your description of the coating sounds like the regular 4, not this pre-pro model.

The "Hump" is the slight rise in the spine behind the swedge on the spine. The purpose is so you know where to stop grinding when you go to make it all pointy looking, like GSoMs bk4:

"Bolo-esque" as ALLHSS put it, referring to my rounded clip below:

Or, ALLHSSs clip point:

Ok, I just went out and was doing some image searches for this "bump".

Which part of the blade are we looking this bump exactly?

Pic? I thought all 4s have a slight "bump" along the spine.

All of my 4's have a slight blem on the spine too, but since they're in the exact same spot, I figure it's a slight tooling glich. If I ever strip the finish, I'll dress the bump with a file.
