Becker bk5 fighter modifications

I think the tanto blade was developed out of need to penetrate samurai armor. I might be way of base! But the tanto is a very strong tip for penetrating thrusts (don't get excited).

Great timing on this thread havoc, my 5 is currently out for modification into a fighter. I believe the maker will be posting a WIP for it by the end of the day, stay tuned!

I currently have Sleepy Badgers bk5 that I am modding into a fighter for him. as many of you know, Murphnuge is apprenticing at my shop. We took the opprotunity yesterday to work on it a little and gave me a chance to show Murph how to fabricate a s gaurd. still got a ways to go but you can get the idea from the pic. we will post some more pics as work progresses.

Wow. That's gonna be a different beast altogether once it's completed. I'm a little jealous SleepyBadger.

Back on topic...aside from the cool mods being done to various 5's, I think it would be a sweet fighter as is. I'm not sure mine is going to ever get away from KP duty though...

Thanks man. I gotta say its been real fun. My shop is a full custom knife shop. The becker projects are all back burner stuff. Murph has kinda got me into them lately and since he is apprinticing here these mods are great experience for him and just plain fun for me. I don't remember who said it but I remember a quote saying if you truely want to learn a specific craft, get good enough at it that you can teach someone else. That's when you truly learn yourself. There's a lot of truth to that. Teaching Murph has brought back the original spark of knifemaking that originally lured me in. Its been all good.

Sparks, is that what all the hugsies are about?:D

Seriously, Todd has been a great teacher and I think I've even learned him a thing or two about drinking. These projects are freaking awesome learning experiences plus it gives my inner Jesse James(fabrication outlaw not cowboy) a moment to live. The BK5 is an amazing knife as I learned at last fall's gathering. I really enjoy the chance to mod it. Sleepy B , you're gonna love what Todd's done to that thing.

so, ages ago, somewhere i read that the tanto point, that near 30-40 degree version at any rate came about as a ghetto fix to a broken sword that used to be longer, and that was the only decent way to put a point back on.

do a google images search on "samurai sword tip" and check it out

Ding dang it y'all! Before I opened this thread I was 100% sure that my next Becker was gonna be a 9. Now I'm all discombobulated. I hadn't ever thought of modding a 5 into a fighter but Todd and Murph sure are putting together a full serving of Awesome Sauce.

Thanks a lot!!!
I really mean it! No, I really mean I mean it.

thanks MyWifeThinksImCrazy for the info, emailed him last night and waiting on his response to see if he wants to take on my ideas on this project!!
