Becker BK5, First Time Using (Photo Heavy)

Great write up. The 5 is next up for me and you got me wanting it even more. Thanks for sharing Warrior.

that other knife has a pommel that looks like the one on the Cattaraugus 225 Quartermaster. Cool pics! I need to play more with my fire piston, only have one and put it away after some frustrating tries. I guess I need better char cloth.
Cattaraugus Quartermaster rehandled was the first thing I thought too. It's good to have a neighbor like that!

Glad you got to feeling better, I think the Maker's Mark saved you from getting any worse!

The five is pretty great. I feel like because it's thinner it tears up your baton, but as you have shown, it does the job just fine! Good stuff, love your pics as always!

Thanks man, you're probably right, haha.

It did tear up the baton a bit, bot not too bad. Then again, I didn't really baton that much. Thanks Cap'n, appreciate it.

I really love the post Warrior! I'm looking at picking a 4 up as my first larger Becker. That was really nice of your neighbor to give you a knife just like that. Seems like a pretty good make and model. Seems like it's seen some work in its day already

Nice pics of the 5 and your fun. But those featherstick pics look like a cm away from finger disaster. I'm not a big fan of choils for anything bigger other than to help sharpen the blade. Which is one of the reasons amonsgt others I don't like the 5.

But if your happy and its a good tool in your kit - then all the best to you! Did look like you had plenty fun with it.

As usual great pics Warrior. thank you. that Blade you were gifted looks handmande, be interesting to know its origins and if it is a Cattaraugus Quartermaster.

fire piston hey, i dont have the patience for those, but my hat off to you for using one.

Thanks man. The 4 is an incredible blade. Here's a thread I have on it: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1223343-Fun-Weekend-With-The-BK4-(Photo-Heavy) It was awesome for him to give me that. I purchased and modded a Trail Hawk for his son. Good people.

Thanks man. I'm very careful when using choils, to be sure. Like I said, it feathered equally as well without using it. I always thought the chol on the 5 looked a bit big, but it fit my finger perfectly.

Thanks man. There's no markings on that gifted blade at all. I love my fire pistons. For the most part, they work on the first try. The o-ring pistons do work better than the string gasket ones. I have both.

Wow, Warrior, you sure know how to shoot a mean picture...... Lovely.... Is not the Five a fine blade?..... Jerry do know how to design a blade..... As always, Sir a big thank you for another fine post....... A great tutorial on the piston and tinder bundle....... The Eastern Red Cedar is my "go to" source for tinder, and the small kindlings too...... The stuff at the bottom of the trunk is usually dry enough on all but the wettest days...... Thanks again......

Thanks Ethan, appreciate it. The 5 is a hell of a nice blade. I've always liked the looks of it, but have never really thought of it as a woods type knife. Boy, was I wrong. It's almost like this Fisk guy knows what the hell he's doing, haha. All kidding aside, it's one fine blade. I remember you asking Fisk about what the long swedge on the spine was for, and he was saying something along the lines of, it makes exit while slicing through something easier, as you wouldn't have the extra thickness of the spine to go through as well. This photo reminded me of that, not seeing any marks on the swedge at all:

I love using cedar for fires. It's my fav as well. There's an abundance of it in the area of the cabin. I have several on my property.

Warrior- Great pics. I have been wanting to order a 5. I guess its time. Ill have to check out fire pistons, never heard of 'em. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks man. Get the 5, is a sweet blade.

Fire pistons are a lot of fun. I really enjoy using them.

I find the grip secure using the choil. I added jimping to one of my 5's and the grip feels 100% secure.

Overall, like Ethan, I too would prefer having more cutting edge than the choil on the 5 but it does have its uses. ;)

I didn't feel unsafe using the choil at all. I have a few blades with a choil, and I do use them on occasion.

Thank you so much for the pictures and the time you put into sharing your obvious passion for bushcraft, Becker Knives and, my favorite Becker, the BK5.

Good on you for your time afield and especially for sharing. THANK YOU!

Thanks man, appreciate that. I do love getting out and using the blades. Need to do another hike sometime soon. The 5 is a pleasure to use.

Is that a new but old model Becker? Gotz the role stamp and looks like smooth black paint, looks like

You been saving it for a few years.....? ? ?... Nice Pictures !

It was mine. I bought it late past fall, but with school and winter never got the chance to use it, so it just sat.. I think I got it from amazon? That's explain the older style, but ino many of the "new" bk5's are old, sadly a lesser bought model.
