Becker BK9 destruction test video

Not necessarily The K-bar 14 1/4 Bowie and the cold steel bushman and the K-bar USMC chopped the concrete for a good while and did not break during this phase. The Becker BK9 is the only one to break during the concrete chopping/Splitting.

It was only a joke noss4. Don't get me wrong... I enjoy watching you doing these tests:thumbup: . You do things to knives that I would never do (chopping concrete), but still we can learn things from your videos.
The "warranty" game with Strider I don't like...:thumbdn:

I got the joke. :D I was just pointing it out.

I don't really see the warranty as a game. I'm a customer just like everyone else. The truth is I don't know what will happen with the strider If the Strider fails and what I mean by fail is blade/tip breakage then I will return the knife to Strider. For and answer. As I said before if Strider sends me a new one then I will test it as well for a comparison and if it also fails. I will call it even.

Also many people send knives back manufactures for repair/replacement all the time. Not knowing for sure what truly happened to the knife. My use will be all over the internet for all to see. So nothing is being hidden from them. All knives I test that break will be sent back with all the info on what I have done. They we give me a YES/NO answer. However I will post it on the net for all to see. We will see what company's fully stand behind there products and Word of honor.

If you don't like it that is fine. You are entitled to you opinion. So please debate it.

Maybe I'll just dent an chip the hell out of the blade. And be stuck with the knife that way. And all of you can laugh at me at your next keg party.:D

"A search and rescue team trying to extract a person or persons out of a collapsed brick or cinder block structure."

A SAR team would have some better tools than a knife for extraction? I would rather pick up a piece of rebar and use it to remove bricks or cinder blocks.

If you wish to destroy a knife and make conclusions/observations on its strength and weakness,,,,,,why not do it under controled conditions in a metallurgy lab?

FK

Well, you said "would". To me, the situation said by noss4 is more reasonable. God knows what'll wait for you in the field. And the 'real world" tests are much more understandable to average joe than "academic" ones. Let alone most pp1 don't have access to metallurgy lab. I don't have those knives he tested but I have impression about them which comes from reading in reviews or threads in this forum or somewhere else. TBH 3 of the tests suprised me so far. These tests show how far a knife "really" goes and that's where their value lies, at least to me. And I appreciat his hard work.

@noss4
Nice done again, bro. Thanks for the effort. I look forward to your strider test.

Your wise in your words "God knows what'll wait for you in the field"

I understand you point of view for pushing a knife test to destruction.

Perhaps we should create a "seal of acceptance"

This knife is certified safe for concrete block chopping.

Awesome vids, thanks. They have me on the edge of my seat wondering how the knife will do and what you are going to try next. Great entertainment.
What knife do you like for your own use?

Man I just watched this I thought the becker was tougher than this I have a bk 7 it does have a small chip where I hit a knot it broke on the brick quickly
i'm going to watch the usmc now I have a army model see what it can take
great vids wow!

everytime you whack the vice handle with the hammer I'm reminded of my high school shop teacher who would give detention to anyone who did the same. ;)

BTW if you cut a supporting piece of wood and enter it below the wood you are chopping you won't have to abuse you vice so much.

That vice is 60 + years old it used to be used on a forge it has taken more hammer blows then any knife so for.

They don't build them like they used to.

This does show that a Becker BK9 would handle any normal knife situation with ease and it's fairly well made and sharp out of the box. I would be happy to have that knife with me in the back country. This is great stuff by the way and I appreciate the videos. Iv'e learned more on this site in 3 weeks than in the last 10 years of knife collecting.

FYI...on Tip breakage and warranties.....about 10 years ago I bought a $100.00 knife from A.G.Russell when he was still in Springdale, Arkansas. I had some termite damage in my attic and was using that knife to test for weak spots in the framing and hit a nail and broke about 1/2 inch of the tip off. I mailed A.G the knife and told him what happened and gave him my credit card information and told him to charge me whatever the cost of resharpening was and postage. About 2 weeks later I get the knife back in the mail with a note that says "We warranty our knifes forever....period"
NO credit card billage...and he paid for the return postage. I have purchased about 25 knives from him since then since you cant beat that warranty....lol
Just wanted to give credit where credit is due......

I would really like to see this knife tested, to see if it is as tough as it looks, If anyone has personal experience with this one, please post here.

The BK9 at 57 RC is indeed very brittle compared to the Bushman which runs around 54. THe biggest factor is that the Bushman is made of very springy and tough steel. It can resist hard impacts all day long. I've had similar chipping problem with the Becker, it chipped very easily when I split a log with it and accidentally hit a rock. Nothing that couldn't be steeled out in few mins. The test proves the Becker is not concrete-proof. Good job
