I've done some testing on some like that that I saw once. It didn't throw off anything on the rockwell, and came off after some sharpening, and heavy use. I have a sneaky suspicion its just the final varnish.
That's the thing--I know what a burnt tip looks like, and they were definitely burnt tips, and it was at the spine, not the edge. Dark purple-y blue fading to lighter blue, to brown. It was heat discoloration of steel. Granted it was only a tiny bit at the very tip, which few would be likely to notice if it was just polished off, but I felt it needed to be addressed. My order was manufactured right before Holy Week and didn't ship until after, so it was sort of like having stuff made on the ultimate Friday!
Don't get me wrong--I'd still trust my life on any of those examples, but when it comes to selling them to other folks that's when it bothers me. Rick said he was going to have a chat with the folks in El Salvador about it, and they received my returns more than a week ago so I'm sure it's been addressed. Like I said, the grinds and edges were the best I've seen from Condor so far! They just minorly burned the tips on a few, probably because of the extra time they're spending!
