Wow, I was thinking just the other day that for all my love of knives, and considering the number I own, a chef's knife is the one I use most often. Guess maybe now I can have a Becker chef...hmmmm
As for the handles, I'm not sure what to think. I kinda like the way they look, though it certainly isn't elegant. I do like rubberized stuff that's not slippery and can be tossed int hte dishwasher (yeah I know! damn near knife abuse that isbut I still do it) So even though I really don't need another kitchen blade one of these might find it's way into my life at some point.

I think the handles look VERY ergonomically correct. Can't wait to see for sure.
I handled/used some of the protos last fall -- these are going to be sweet.
The handles are very comfortable.
On the steel choice -- IIRC it's a German kitchen cutlery steel.
for folks who use factory knife blocks, a tip to keep them from dulling your blades is to store your knives edge up. (or buy a block that stores them on their side)
