Started back up with the genealogy thing. My great great grandmother, that came here from Scotland, is the line I've been able to go back the furthest to. She was also the one that was related to Sir William Wallace. The furthest back I got, was my 44th great grandfather, born around 520. I just got back to my 46th great grandfather, born around 480. Through that same line, although I haven't logged it yet, thus far will get me back to the 200's, perhaps further. Freakin' crazy...

One can deer hunt in any weather. :D

Deer shooting? Well that's another story. :(

Had another skunk weekend. Yesterday, nothing showed in the morning and in the evening, the only deer seen were 18 does in the newly sprouted wheat fields. This morning, between us, my B-in-L, 2 nephews, a great-nephew and I, we saw 4 does. Unfortunately, doe season ended a month ago. I got 2 does and a buck during the 2 week "doe's can be shot" season, and my B-in-L got 2 does, my sister and nephew each got a doe. Since the "Bucks Only" season started, the bucks have been scarce or cagey.

generally I tell people that being able to go out and hunt is a win.
getting to pull the trigger is a bonus.

SWMBO has been ill for the past 10 days, so I stayed inside and spoiled her.
about an hour ago we went out and cleared the cars, shoveled the front porch, back deck, and space around the cars.
by the time I was done with the back eck, there was already 1/4" or more on the cars.
out of the 3-7" in the forecast, I'm guessing we were in one of the "narrow bands of higher accumulation"

still hoping the county courts will close tomorrow - because that's the trigger for my office to close as well.
then I can fire up the tractor and scrape the drive and parking area into a pile to give me a start on a quinzee.

Saturday was supposed to be nice. I had to work, and then I woke up to mist and fog, which turned to steady rain most of the day. Got back onto my roof project today though. Hung another rafter, the last of the first half of the whole roof. That leaves only two more posts with rafters to hang, but those are buried under the old wooden roof, and covered in plywood and shingles. I was walking on that half today to get in some of the upper welding. It resembles an umbrella at this point with a tarp draped over it.

They lost a hiker up on the mountain over a week ago, he's still missing. And, a volunteer search and rescue guy died trying to find him. Not good.

Tanker, that plant is legendary. I still see beams with "Bethlehem" in raised letters in the web. My grandpa retired from Kaiser Steel, I got to tour that plant as a kid in the Scouts, pretty neat tour.
It was pretty awesome for sure. I’m a stationary engineer by trade. I’ve been operating and maintaining high pressure industrial boilers for 33 years. Hell I worked on a boiler in Brazil that was 10 stories high. This place dwarfed everything I’ve ever operated. Very humbling experience for me. The safety record was abysmal and these guys just kept cranking out the steel.

He sure can tell a story!!

I'm trying on some new Kenetrek boots right now, I started looking at them last year. I held off until I got a good, accurate foot measurement with a Brannock devise. They seem to fit really well, so the Brannock did its job. Break-in is going to take some time though. I feel like I'm wearing Herman Munster's boots. :p

Don't miss the contests going on.

This week's BF Mega Prize Pack has lots of Becker goodness.

And the Becker West Mega-Giveaway is a beaut!

Merry Christmas Eve, folks! I was amused on my drive into work this morning by a tree someone had out up and decorated in the median on the interstate.
