Wife invited me in the other room to watch the halftime show. She said it was j-lo and shakira. I told her all it was going to be was a butt shaking fest, haha.

1066vik 1066vik Do you happen to know what the tang style is called on that parang i just picked up. I know it's a full length but it's not a full blade height. I've been scouring the web for the proper terminology. I got nothing

I don't know if it has a specific term - it's a full tang, but the tang itself is inlet into the handle that's been contoured for ergonomics.
I've done the same thing on a couple of the knives I've made because it's easier and in my mind, feels better in hand, because the impact shock isn't translated into my fingers.

Post a picture please.
Picked up this Parang for cheap. It's at least a 1/4 inch thick if not more and a FFG. The handle is cracked so I'm going to make a new one. I just ordered a natural canvas micarta block. Somebody tried the side grinder sharpening method. Nothing that I can't work out though. What really sold me is that Beautiful Patina it's deep and rich like the blueing on a classic Colt revolver.

tang is exposed full length of the spine, but is wrapped in wood across the front.
basically, they did a straight sawcut the width of the tang and socketed it in then riveted it.

Sun rose to patchy light frost and quickly warmed to a beautiful 72° afternoon.

We don't get many this perfect.

Took the dog to a nearby state park for a little hike.

Things are amazingly green.

It was good to get out.

today was a day that reinforced my habit of turning on the water for 30 seconds before dipping a toe in the running water to see if it's up to temp yet.
it wasn't.
what makes this worse is that my furnace runs off the hot water tank, too.
by 6, I had a functioning water heater - 6:30 PM, I was able to turn the furnace back on.

stupid thing is that the part that went bad was the first one I checked -- and it worked at that point, but completely failed when I broke down and called an HVAC tech to come take a look. I actually heard the ceramic crack on his hand.
he was cool about it, though - called the parts house and told them to expect me -- let me buy the parts at my cost and install it myself, so I only had to pay his base service call fee and not another hour++ and parts markup.
