That makes it even cooler. Something really special about old school items that still function well. They were designed to last, unlike most things today.
Right on. Super simple design too.

Got my Primus 210 in.

The goods:

Burner. The tube to the left is a pilot lighter. Very rare to find on these stoves:

Put together, complete with windscreen:

Adding the kerosene. Found that old copper Coleman funnel at the antique mall awhile back:

Poured some denatured alcohol in the priming cup, and lit it up:

After a few seconds, the pilot lighter ignites:

When the alcohol just about goes out, you screw in the airlock on the fuel cap, then start pumping the pump slowly a few times, and the roarer burner comes to life. Sorry for the crappy photo:

Starts glowing she does:

Priming cup is a little wonky, but still like the shot. You can see the flame underneath, coming out of the jet:

I like that it came with the original tin:

sharp !!! that looks great ... you must have put a lot of time and elbow grease into cleaning that one up

Someone else did the honors, I purchased it that way. I do have an Optimus 45 I'm fettling though. Will post before and afters after I get the kit in I ordered for it. It's a late 40's model.

Holy, slow motion snarking.

How's it going fellas? It's been quite a while since I've been on. I've been busy with quite a few things including a job change a year and a half ago and buying a house in November. Lots of other stuff in between too. Just figured I'd check in and see what's new.

I saw the bk18 release, probably not the blade for me, but cool nonetheless. The new Kabar Wrenchknife looks pretty sweet. I'll probably have to pick one up.

I'll probably be looking for some advice soon. I'll be needing a chainsaw to start cleaning up some dieing poplar trees and a huge mess of lilacs. I have a crabapple tree that is probably going to have to go.

AC! Good to see you around!

Hmm... crabapple == fruitwood. Might get some nice chunks out of that if it's any big.

Echo is not a bad brand if you just need a small saw for occasional cutting jobs.
The husky 455 is junk IMHO, as is anything else made by poulon.
Other huskys are fine.
Stihl is good. Too.

Never use ethanol gas in a small engine.

Not a fan of poulan either. Bought one, brought it home, and couldnt even get it started. Also, I worked for a guy trimming trees years back, and the poulans sucked. He even thought so, haha.

I bought the smallest Husqy pro saw some years ago. Billed as a limbing saw. XP-345, 346 or something. Sweet machine, very happy with the purchase. Not cheap, but never regretted it after using old or crappy saws.

I sent a Stihl back to the homestead a while back. It never gets ethanol, and it has been 100% reliable, silky smooth, and revs higher than anything the kin folk have tried to date.

It's pretty good sized. I haven't decided whether it's getting chopped down or just a really good trimming. I had planned on burning it for firewood if I end up cutting it down but maybe I could look for some good figure in it.

Thanks for the saw suggestions. I intend to get something decent and don't mind spending extra or something that will last. Most places around here sell Stihl and Huskys, so I'll probably end up with one one of the two. I'll make sure to avoid Poulan.
