Becker Knives....Do You Like Them??

Hey all,

Been nosing around for a bigger fixed blade I can take on hog hunting trips. By BIG I am talking 6 inches or so. Also I wouldn't want to spend more than $100.

So many knives to look through.

After seeing some posts here about Becker knives I decided to check them out. They really look like a nice knife and the prices are way less than $100. I'd like to know what you all think about these blades. The ones I like most are the BK15, BK17 and BK16. That BK15 looks like it would be a great knife to carry hunting and do other chores around camp.

I'd like to know what you all think of these knives and if there is anything else that comes close to them in the price range they are in. How do you think they compare to a Cold Steel SRK or Recon Scout? Another one I have been considering is the SOG NW Ranger. Of course I have also looked at the BUCK fixed blades like the 119.

What's your thoughts here?

Thanks for the help.

They are well made knives and very popular. Most folks think they are underpriced for what you get. Great warranty and a great community.

They are wonderful knives. Yes I am biased, I own a few of them. You would be hard pressed to find a better knife with better steel at a better price. Get you a BK7 or 9. I warn you though, you will buy more and more of them. haha They are that good.

Are you going to stab the hog with it or use it to clean the hog? If your going to stab it I would recommend a BK5 or BK7. But they are all very good knives at a great price point.

They are good. I have a BK7 and it's great. I am not nearly so fond of the Becker Necker as many people...I found the geometry and ergos to be rather poor on that.

On their big knives the sheaths leave a great deal to be desired. The plastic handles are better than you think they would be being hollow and all. They are well shaped. I swapped out the plastic handles for micarta and made a leather sheath. When you factor those facts in, the cost of my BK7 is probably, in reality, a little north of what I would have paid for an ESEE-6. After I was done, I like the Bk7 better than a stock ESEE-6. Like the bowie shape, like the handle (now) like how light and handy a big indestructible knife like that can be.

So for me, I doubt I buy another Becker. I also doubt I ever get rid of, stop using, or stop liking my BK7 as I have it all set up now. I think I prefer to get a little more out of the box...which is why I have 7 ESEEs, 10 Spydercos, but just the one Becker.

No I don't like Becker knives. I LOVE them!!!!!
The absolute best production knives you can buy in your price range and a lot better than most of what you can buy at any price. I got my first one in late January or early February. Now I have 5. And I just know I'll have a few more by year's end.

For taking a hog I'd go with a 5 or 7. For general camp chores etc. I go with a BK-2. If you really want to find out how loyal the Becker owners are just post this in the Becker subforum. I'm sure you'll get an enthusiastic response! :D

They go a little counter to some of my preferences in a knife, but right with them in others. Regardless of the nit-picky things I'd change about them I'd be happy to carry and use anything with the Becker name on it, and think they represent an excellent value.

I have an old CS SRK in Carbon V and I really like it; it's been to Bosnia with me twice. But if I were going out into the woods, I'd take my BK-7. Takes and holds a great edge, easy to sharpen, and is my best chopper short of my CS Kukri and Condor Boomslang machetes. I own a SOG Creed that's also a great chopper in AUS-8. For less than $100, go with the BK-7, even though the new Beckers are also great tools.

Haha, asking this place if they like beckers is like asking your dog if he likes bones, or if the cat likes yarn.

I was looking for a durable fixed blade--read so much about the beloved BK2 I bought one. Even my wife said, "WOW! Now that's a knife!"

LOL. Recon so! I have a BK-7, a Necker, and a Remora

Do you think the Necker would be to large for edc? I live in a city and typically carry a spyderco tenacious. Always have jeans on so pockets ftw.

I picked one up the other day but really could make up my mind since I hadnt actually tried carrying it all day.
