I'm about 85 miles WNW of Kansas City.
if yes, what kinds of things do folks want to do -- and more importantly, when?
I'm assuming May is out due to holidays, school ending, blade show, etc...
Mid-June?
July 5-7?
(spend the 4th at home making noise, hide out at my place for the next 3 days building an alibi)

The factory usually shuts down last week of June through first week of July. I could definitely make it then.

ETA:

I would be down for drinking some good beer and sitting around a fire with some good ole' boys.

Learning to make traps and fire would be great, too.:D

Color me interested. Might be able to work it into a good idea (by wifes standards) by dropping my family off with friends in KC, MO.

May is out for me, mid June through the end of July is good though!

I am down for some fire, is there room to bring guns as well , or no? I can swing through Swiss meats on the way and get bacon and sausages!

I'm interested. Sounds like a roughly 8 hour drive for me but I can handle that. However I plan on spending 3 weeks of July up in Oregon.

bigghoss - I'm 15 miles N of Topeka and it's 4 lane to within 4 miles of the site. (then well maintained gravel) speed limit on I-70 is 75, so 8 hours is pretty close.

yes, it's possible there could be some shooting -- I have up to 50 yards between the back yard and the backstop, but it'll be 1/4 mile walk from where we would be camping.
there is a hawk/knife stump at the campsite.
potable water near the range, but not the campsite -- there will be an outhouse, though, and I may be able to get a water barrel setup done like E's.

Sounds cool. Cash is tight for me and my vacation plans make it even tighter. Despite having vacation time, between OT and night bonus I make significantly more if I'm actually at work. So if I don't make it, it's not for a lack on desire.

paint me a freak, I'm down like a clown.. :D

of course pending schedule, I'd be more up for something in the fall though, I'm pretty much a wuss when it comes to sweating all night, don't want to get all hot and bothered around you guys... :)

yeah and I'd be in a tent, albeit a mesh tent its still a tent in july/august:barf: without shade and a breeze I'd be miserable..

ETA: zeptember and rocktober would be more appealing to me :)

Rob I can spot you a hammock and tarp. MUCH better nighttime ventilation than a tent.

Are there good spots for hanging up a hammock? I am starting to look and thinking Sept isn't a bad idea for my schedule. August has three camping trips already! First few weeks of July could work for me, too.

I'd be coming from SE Wisconsin, and wouldn't mind picking up another person on the way, if it would help some be able to attend.

A few of us talked about this at the gathering.
July 5-7
in addition to the fire ring, I will try to build a cooking station similar to E's.
There are places for hammocks and tent space is limited only by the range of my Brush hog.
There is a hawk target.
There is the possibility of making fire and beating metal into submission.
There is a plethora of standing dead cedar if you want to work on wood carving and/or bowdrill fire making, and live ones if you want to harvest a couple to make a shelter or "bush chair"
If we're really lucky mulberries will be ripe.
I'm also going to post this up on the bushcraft forum so there may be some of those folks present in case someone wants a class on plant identification, trapping, or trap making.

So far those who have said they intend to be there include:
me :D
