The idea is simple. Move your body. Get fitter.
It ain't a contest. It's about doing what you can do to get mobile.

Between the dates of January 1 and January 31, the challenge is to earn 50 Becker Points. Points can be earned in the following fashion:

1 mile (1.6 km) on foot = 1 Becker Point
4 miles (6.4 km) road cycling = 1 Becker Point
2 miles (3.2 km) mountain biking = 1 Becker Point
1 mile (1.6 km) swimming = 6 Becker Points

If you just do one thing, you'll need to hoof it 50 miles, or road bike 200 miles, or mountain bike 100 miles, or swim 8.3 miles. But you can combine items to build toward 50 Becker Points in any fashion you choose. Honor system in play.

The reward? You'll feel better, and you'll be participating with a group of supportive peers.

I did want to kick off the new year with a local 5K, but a chest cold made me reconsider. Still, I have set a 500 mile (running) goal for the year. If I meet the monthly 50 miles, it'll be no problem.

I'm in....does sky diving count; how about scuba diving, para sailing, or wave boarding?

I'll be off to a slow start. I strained something in my back and can hardly move.

My New Years Resolution is "To run more".

Geez rok, based on how much you ran last year, you're gonna run outta land before that happens! ;)

Hope you feel better soon. I can sympathize. We took a road trip over the holidays, and my back is still messed up from riding so long. On top of that, I've had chest congestion and sinus. Blech.
Had to skip the New Year's Day 5K I'd planned to run. Just wasn't worth the pain and coughing that would have ensued.

He's wearing a groove around parts of Japan. Soon, Zushi will have an heretofore unheard-of moat.

It's the 2nd,I already have 66.7 biking miles in with a New Years day annual ride...not sure which it qualifies for tho...it was the entire length down and back up the Virginia Creeper trail, but it's rail trail...this year I rode my SS 29er mtn bike (SingleSpeed),so would it be road cycling or mtn biking,it's not quite either but sorta both

Well, since it's all dirt and I rode my mtn bike,I'm calling it mtn biking (it's not like I'll have trouble meeting the challenge this month :p). Walked just over a mile to the in-convenient store this morning for a paper too,so that's 2 miles walking.

Points: 35.35 :)

any of you logging miles with Charitymiles.org‏?
SWMBO told me about them - kinda of a cool concept.

I saw you'd already assigned yourself points, but I was going to say you should split the points between mountain biking and road biking. You were on a trail instead of pavement, which is certainly more difficult than biking on a solid surface, but you were on a flat trail instead of biking up hills, and flat surfaces are easier to traverse. Hence, I'd say allot yourself 1 point for every three miles. Either way, you're currently far ahead of the pack! :D

I am looking forward to The DC and rokclmb mileage.

Rode my mag trainer...bike...for an hour today...typically 15 miles...wanted/thought about going out but it is -7, -30f with the wind chill, and decided I was an idiot...
7 points total

Likewise. After the first two days of the Becker Strength Challenge, frankly put, I'm looking forward to seeing YOUR point total there. As long as you stay healthy and can remain consistent, I won't be surprised if your strength points equal rokclmb's and The DC's potential mileage here.

Thanks!

Starting next week I'll be spread pretty thin, so I've been trying to get as many points now before the slow down. I'll still try my hardest, though.

I want to go run so bad it's painful. But it wouldn't be worth pneumonia.
