They are finally here. I was just surfing around Knifecenter of the Internet, and they have the new KaBar Beckers in 1095 CroVan! I almost started screaming like a little schoolgirl!

By the way, the necker is about $36US and the Campanion is $66US. I think I need BOTH!

Wow thats a good price!
looks like the Campanion is back up to 1/4 inch thickness as well.
I might have to pick up the Necker for sure.
This summer past i bought a Camillus Companion blank on ebay for 30$.
I have some nice exotic wood on the way for the handle/grip.I'm just waiting for the package to arrive!
:)

Can't make up my mind about the companion still, seems a bit brutish to be very handy for fine work. Have to ponder that one.

I had a companion for quite some time and I never really found a use for it. It was one heck of a knife and could stand up to pretty much any beating you could through out at it. It just never fell into my rotation. it was heavy, I didn't care for the sheath and the blade was just too big in comparison to it's lenth... IMO... I hope that makes sense.

The Necker, on the other hand, I'm an idiot for ever getting rid of it. I guess I'll have to buy a new one now :)

That's kind of how I'd expect to feel about it. If I had one knife, it'd be an option (though I'd probably reach for something larger), but I usually carry multiple pieces of steel.

Its definitely a beast for sure.
I'm hoping to evaluate mine more once its been rehandled.
Right now its only para-cord wrapped which is functional but not that comfortable..
I own a bunch of large choppers but mostly i use Moras or my Buck Woodsman or my Enzo for fine work.
From my albeit limited experience the Campanion definitely does not compare to the Moras/Enzo/Woodsman for "finese" tasks.
Maybe its a "Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none" knife but i'm not sure yet.
One thing for sure if you need a knife under 11 inches (OAL) for batoning it will surely get the job done.
Unless of course the wood is just too wide for the short-ish Campanion blade.

I'm happy that the Ka-Bar/Beckers are arriving - looking forward to the Combat Bowie. For me, the Becker crewman seemed to work better than the campanion.

I like the look of the crewman as well.
What's this steel? I assume crovan means cromium and vanadium, are they to make it a bit stainless?

My campanion (rehandled and sheathed by ilbruche) is an awesome knife. Thick and tough enough to pound the heck outta it, yet nimble enough to do some finer work. I DO carry a smaller blade too for really fine work.

My understanding (based on what Ethan said) is that the new steel will lack the edge holding capabilities of the Camillus Beckers but have more lateral strength.

I've been wanting to try a necker for a loooong time. $35 isn't to bad! Any in hand pictures?

Note that they have a knife called *champion*, not companion and they list it as being a hunting/skinning knife and don't list the thickness of the spine in the specs. Mistake? Different knife?

My old necker had a super thick tip, it wasn't sharp at all at the tip. Did I get a lemon or has anyone else experienced this?

Anybody have pics of a Becker Necker next to others knives?
Say next to a Campanion, or maybe commonly available knives like a SAK or Buck 110/119 so we can get a sense of the size and dimensions.
Or next to a ruler for that matter, lol!
:D
