I had the twine pulled out of my leg today, and I am now off the antibiotics. Which of course means beer tonight. I'll drink one for the Beckerheads. Sláinte!

I'm trying to get some time to hit the woods late Saturday, after the soccer tournaments, to build a wigwam and tape some knife stuff. Wish me luck, getting time these days is not likely to happen, but I can hope.

I like pie. :D

Nice one, Maethor. Bet that first brew will taste mighty fine. Congrats on the heal up, don't forget to pick up a pair of "logging kneepads" for next time you go a-choppin.

Prost!

Never heard of it, Google is my friend. Sounds interesting. Thanks a lot!

Edit: Google search for "logging kneepad" didn't show the expected results, would you mind posting a picture or a link?

Its raining here. I love it. Wish i could get outside.

By the way, i bought my first tarp, a Integral Designs Siltarp 1. Gonna see what the whole fuss about tarping has been. To be honest im not looking forward to it, at least not for overnighters in the forest. Ticks are rife in my part of the world, and Lymes disease is a threat to be taken seriously. I dont think the tarp can compete with my MSR Hubba HP for summer camping.

Sorry, friend, I was making a small joke. But you know, there are a number of options for knee protection for motorcyclists which may offer a bit of protection. Of course there's always this option:

I actually thought about that, I have a spare piece of aircraft grade Al laying around here, might just make something like this. But of course I'd rather not hit my knee again, protected or not.

put a mosquito net over the tarp to keep the ticks out?

Great video, that was very informative.. I'm wondering if you could use the technique of swinging wood and axe together against a block with, say a bk2?

Ticks can crawl under it. Plus the whole point with the tarp, was to go minimal and keeping it close to nature. If i have to bring extra stuff along, i feel i might as well have stuck with my lightweight solo MSR tent. And i totally forgot about the need for a groundcloth...This is seeming like less of a good idea, and i havent even received it the tarp yet.

I do the same. Got it from Ray Mears too. Simple and safe tecnique.

That cuts the power you can put into each strike in half. When you're chopping something that's laying on the ground, you can bend your knees while the axe travels down. Some dude from the US forest administration said never to ave the axehead below the hands. That's some good advice too.

Watch this, it would have saved my meniscus.

Man, I can't wait for the salmons to start running up here. I'll be posting lots-o pix of them when they finally do start :D

.

And thats coming from the guy, who almost chopped his own leg off with an axe :D:D

I said knowing all that would have saved my meniscus, but I watched the video after that. :D
