Beckerhead firearms

As Tanker said above if it seems to have harsh recoil it could be set for light loads while shooting heavy loads. And if you are having issues with it not cycling reliably, (if that is while shooting light loads) you may have it set up for heavy loads and it won't cycle lighter loads well if at all.

Yeah. I didn’t experiment with it last time (the only time) I shot it. I’ll plan to try it in both configurations this next time.

Thank you! I gave away my last Big Book just before I became curious about this gun. I think mine pre-dates the “Sweet Sixteen”, and with the vented rib, it’s been hard for me to identify. I haven’t spotted one on gunbroker yet, in my sporadic searching of completed auctions.

From my reading, I think this gun started life as a 2 9/16” gun, and was modified. I think I read somewhere that that ring of bright metal barrel extension indicates it was properly modified to fire 2 3/4”. I wasn’t sure though, which is why I had the chamber throat opened up before firing.

I’ve only tried the rings in the “heavy load” configuration. I also just replaced the steel gas ring parts, but I’m still using the original fluted bronze bushing. The new action springs seemed quite a bit longer and beefier, so I’m hoping that’s all it needed to be more reliable. Fingers crossed.

I’ve always been on the fence about this gun, so if it doesn’t smooth out this next time out, I may just move it on. I feel like it deserves better than I can give it. It really needs a new stock set, and I don’t see myself shooting trap with it regularly.
Your tune up sounds good. The new action springs will be longer. Don’t give up on it until you’ve run a few hundred shells thru it. I rebuilt my 1948 Light 12 a couple of years ago. I take it out at least one weekend a month during pheasant season. I’m out hunting every weekend from November thru January. It did half ass ejections for the first few boxes. But I expected that.

Really! That’s good to hear. And good advice. As much as it hurts me to think about buying several hundred rounds of 16ga, I’ll try and do it that way. :)

Labor of Love Brotha. You are the owner of one fine piece of craftsmanship.

I’ve always wanted a 1903. Have you shot it? How do you like it? What a beautiful collection.
Thank you. Yes I shoot it. In fact when I go to the range people see it and ask to hold it. I let them shoot it. I is fun to shoot. My Detective Special is fun also. I love my Colts. The S&W Victory is nice and I have had more then one person ask to buy it. I also have a Beretta 950, a Ithica 20 gage, H&R 12 gage, Cooey bolt action.22.

I had a victory model that was converted from .38 S&W to .38spl by drilling out the cylinders. Fun to shoot, but not particularly accurate.
The Buckmark, OTOH, that's a laser.

Lol. That’s awesome! I can understand people wanting to hold it. I’d probably be one of them.

My first ever pistol was a Colt 1908, purchased at a yard sale when I was young. It was a solid brick of rust. I soaked it, cleaned it up, replaced some springs, and carried it on the farm for a while. Used it on a family of packrats once. Later I gave it to a buddy who expressed an interest in having it professionally refinished. I always liked that early Colt automatic aesthetic, but I prefer the size and .32acp cartridge of the 1903. Yours looks great. Glad to hear you shoot and enjoy it.

Nice video. My godfather gave me my M1903. And I did carry it when my psyco neighbor girlfriend beater followed me. It is a good firearm to carry.

The psycho boy tried to get into my RI place. Ya no. Showed him the DS. Yep back off boy.

Backstory. He would beat the sam hill out of his girlfriend. She would come to my place to use my phone. I was gone for the weekend and from what neighbor cop told me he dragged her out naked and was shoving sand in her mouth.

So when he tried to get into my place, I said I was busy. He put his foot in the door. I grabbed the DS and said I am busy cleaning my guns. Never saw him again.

Remington model 12A.

Started as a cheap project with damaged stocks and some missing parts. It’s actually one of my favorites now. One of the few I’ve had that will handle .22lr smoothly. Stevens model 75.

This one was complete and functional when I bought it. I cleaned up the stocks a little is all. I’ve always liked the grey/green/plum colored blueing. Both are incredibly slim and light.

Is that a family heirloom? Or purchased? If so, did you know what it was when you bought it? I doubt I’d have known what I was looking at. Barrel length and choke? Super cool!

My son and I were fondling thru Rockys gun and pawn in Eustis Florida about 10 years ago. I was checking out the surplus rifles and he was in the back racks with the shotguns. Hey ya old POG (He’s an Infantry puke who thinks that Tankers exist to serve them) I found you a cool 16/870. I knew it was old from the low number and the barrel had the matching #. Remington did that until about 1955 IIRC. I pulled off the barrel and removed the bolt. It looked like new inside and the action was smooth like popcorn butter. Hey Rock I’ll give you a buck fifty for this old POS 870 back here. Oh hell no you won’t you’ll give me 2. Alright lay a 4473 on the counter I’m still looking around.
It came with a 28 inch full choke barrel and the fancy wood stock. I’ve since picked up a 28 inch 1955 IC barrel. Which I pulled out of a wooden barrel full of barrels lol at Webster Flea market over in Webster Fl. Paid 50 bucks and it’s a beauty. That barrel is on the 870 in the picture. I use it every other weekend bird hunting every year. It’s a pheasant dropping machine.

Wow what a great story. Super score! Extra points for bargaining.

I definitely wouldn’t have known what I was looking at. Low serial numbers are exciting but I never remember where the various manufacturers started or stopped serial production on a given model.

That ^ silly little Stevens model 75 might actually be my lowest serial number now, at about 1000, but I don’t think they’re super collecty yet. The only other marking on the whole gun is “Ranger” scribed on the left side in flowing, loopy cursive.
