Beckerhead firearms

Amanda and I shot our new rifles today. She got a Remington 742 30-06 for hunting deer and I got a Ruger AR-556. Both of the rifles ran great and I can't wait to change out some parts on my AR.

This gun thing is getting pricey...

No pics, Dres? Glad you finally got your AR. Pimping those out is a lot of fun. HIGHLY recommend the Battle Arms stuff for ambi safeties. I also really like the Troy ambi mag release (especially with the Seekins mag button), and the Raptor charging handle. Those get put into every single AR build of mine. The ALG ACT is a pretty darn good trigger on a budget, but man, the SSA-E and some of the other nice triggers are so sweet if you're looking for precision. I use the ALG triggers in my battle rifle types, and the really expensive ones in the precision builds.

What all is on your wishlists or interest lists? I'm looking with some curiosity at the Ruger Precision Rifle for bolties, CMMG Mk47 for my general interest in AK ammo, since I'm more of an AR guy than an AK guy. Also need more P99 and P99C, and thinking about PPS, PPS mod 2, XD mod 2, Ruger American pistol, and a custom CZ on the pistol side of things. Origin-12 looks like a sweet shotgun. And, I need me a trust, cause it's getting close to time to look into suppressors. Oh, and I want to have Teludyne Tech do their mod on my 308 AR.

Not pics, just went to the range quickly to check the function of the two rifles. I believe Amanda got a few cell phone pictures of me shooting it. I will post pics as I change the rifle.

I want to keep my AR light and fast. I plan on replacing the stock and handgaurd (maybe the grip) with Magpul MOE SL furniture, and mount a flashlight to the front for HD and Coyote defense around the yard.

I do want to put an optic of some sort on it. I am having a hard time with my varying wants. I love red dots because they are so fast but they don't help me at the longer distances. I am looking at the Bushnell AR 223 1x4 PCL but I am afraid it will suck for close shots. I would also loose the ability to use my BUIS. I am also thinking of combining a red dot with a 3x magnifier. I just don't want my rifle to be too clunky feeling.

I want to be able to shoot from HD distances out to 200 yards. The further distances are not a must for pinpoint accuracy but I would like to be able to go to be range and hit the target from 200 yards.

For the longer stuff I may down the road get a bolt gun like my buddies Remington 700. His rifle made it look like I knew what I was doing. LOL As for other guns down the road? A Glock 26 is in both Amanda and my future. Shotguns, more shotguns! I want to make a simple HD/range toy shotgun out of a Moggberg 500/590 or a Remington 870.

This spring I want to pick up some steel targets as well. I like shooting steel.

As always advice is welcome.

The MFT stock is pretty good for a light build. Vortex makes some good stuff, or if you're on a budget, Primary Arms. Might be good looks for optics. Red dot with a QD magnifier might suit you. You could have the red dot always installed, and just slap on the magnifier if you need it. Obviously be careful with the setup of those steel targets. Seen some people do that wrong, and the ricochet comes whizzing back at them. No fun at all.

Just ordered a Williams Foolproof rear peep sight for my Stevens bolt action .30-30, was going to order some LeveRevolution ammo but that stuff is over a dollar a round so for now it's Core-lokt and federal from walFart. Also ordered a Choate Survivor stock and fore end for one of my H&R shotguns and a 12" LOP hogue stock and magpul forend for my Norinco 870 clone.

Can't wait to get my taxes filed and get my return so I can get some more projects done.

Pictures when your projects are complete please!

And more Youtube stuff....LOL

I'll be doing vids of the guns as I get them done. And maybe one of me replacing the heater core in my Blazer. Should be fun since it might be snowing and I don't have a garage.

I have to crank out some videos. I don't mind the recording, but I hate the editing and uploading.

I forgot to post pics of my shotguns that I ordered new furniture for.

So here is my H&R 12 gauge with Choate Survivor furniture. The Survivor stock I find to be a bit uncomfortable as the opening behind the grip is too small for my medium/large hands. I think I'm going to move the stock over to my youth 20ga since the recoil won't be as punishing and put the other stock back on. I like the fore end though so I'll be getting another one of those for the 20. This is what it looks like.

The Survivor stock feels to be about the same weight as a regular synthetic stock so the weight and balance haven't seem to have changed.

The other gun I tricked out is my Norinco Hawk 982. These are copies of an 870 action and 870 furniture will fit them. So I ordered a Magpul fore end and a Houge Short LOP stock. The stock is 2" shorter than factory which is a little awkward at first. I'm 6' 2" and maybe a 13" LOP would have fit me better but it's not too awkward. I considered a magpul stock but the Houge stock was already $55 and I didn't want to spend $100 for this particular gun. I'll probably get the Magpul stock for my Mossberg 500.

I have a magpul light mount but the light ends up sitting well above the barrel. It's not really an issue as I can reach the switch just fine without shifting my hand but I am concerned about it hanging way out from the gun and becoming a snag point on stuff. Also looking to add a +1 tube extension, single point sling, and some velcro shot cards.

Picked up my first handgun a couple of days ago: the new S&W SW22 Victory. Hopefully I can get it to a nearby range within the next few days. Feels great in the hand, though. It's all stainless steel, so it has a nice weight to it. This should be extremely accurate and perfect for learning handgun shooting.
