The gathering was a blast!
The first day and night was pretty chill with people just showing up, relaxing and drinking... I got wasted on WAY to much malted nastyness and booze.
Yeah so I woke up still 100% drunk so I drank a beer in my hammock and took this photo.
Folks milling around before we started the chopping contest.
Everyone did good on the chopping contest and its not that easy chopping 4x4" lumber. I think the winner did it in 54 cuts and the second place did it in 55.
Here we have the winners!
Also group photo time!
Next we did a tomahawk throwing contest, I don't have many photos from it since I was taking place in it, we were throwing hawks at cards and who ever had the most cut cards when the deck was done won!
Only took us like an hour and a half...
Winner!
Oregon Fal'er told me about some great fatwood stumps so I went hunting with my axe some. Found a ton of great wood.
Came back and it was time for the trap and snare contest. Really there was only two entry's.
Here is the first one, a man trap.
It was pretty cool and it had enough force to break a few 2" sticks. Don't worry we took it apart after the demo.
Next up was Mingo's fish gill net demo and how-to
Winner of a BK2!
Then we had a fire contest which pretty much was to see who could boil a cup of water the fastest using only one hand and with the kit they normally carry.
I don't have any photos of this but other might.
I won this contest and got a BH10 that I traded later with a fellow beckerhead since he missed out on them and really wanted one and I already had one.
Then Mingo took us all on a really nice, long plant walk where she showed us and talked about Balsam Fir, Wild Carrot, Cleavers/Bedstraw, Salal/Kinnickinnick, Hazelnut, Violet, Chickweed, Dead Nettle, Plantain, Rose Hips, Bracken Fern, Sword Fern, Usnea and some poisons ones also like Poison Hemlock, Lupine, Twisted Stalk, and Poison Oak.
It was a lot of fun and people seemed to really enjoy it and learn a lot. I'm lucky cause everyday with her is plant walk for me!
As night settled in it was time to see who could scare Capt. the most.
Come the next morning....
We have a winner with his story about a dead girl or something, I can't really remember since I was tired and drunk kind of.
As some people started to pack up to leave we all pulled out what we showed up with.
Wow we really had a lot of stuff up there!
Overall it was a great first gathering!
However the next one I plan on teaching some more classes for those who are interested in things like bow drills, flint knapping, bow making...etc.
Also I think next year if people want to show up with dogs they need be well behaved or on a leash and people need to pick up their dogs poop since I think about 6 of us stepped in some.
