Beckerwest Gathering report and photos, lots of photos.

It was a great time indeed. I was happy to meet everyone, and feel lucky to know you all!

I will try and get some pics up tomorrow, also video of the chopping contest!!

My thoughts on this event, the dogs we're a pain in the ass, though i'd hate to tell folks not to bring em', Dan would bring his no matter what I said anyway.
Not getting to have fire really sucked, damn forest service. To combat this I think we should have an event next year in april or may, though may would be harder for me on the work side. We could also do one in October if folks wanted to do it Bi Annually.

Maybe for this next one we could have folks decide what contests we should have and then someone could volunteer to run that particular contest.

The hawk throwing contest was more popular than I expected it to be so it should get a better prize next year.

I learned a whole bunch about organization and am confident it'll just get better every year.

I guess the good news is the BeckerHeads were well recieved at that property and they'd be happy to have us back there for more events in the future.

Somebody outta start a planning thread for the next gathering and we could start hashing out all the details there. No hurry I guess.

Also we had 16 people there including 7 BeckerHeads. Everyone who said they were gonna be there, showed up.

a couple event i've gone to, there was no rule about pets, so people brought some.

we quickly got a rule in place... esp due to feces and the people not caring where their pets went, including ON people's tents. nice.

so, with rule in place... we promptly got rule breakers.

one in particular didn't care, so he was invited to go home.

one said they couldn't get or couldn't afford a dog sitter, and they were invited to go home.

one though was crafty. they printed a little letter saying their companion animal was required for their form of anxiety and approved by their doctor and naturally the doctor could not be reached to verify the authenticity of this "prescription". strictly speaking they didn't have a state licensed companion animal... what to do. well, she promised she would always have the dog on a leash, on her person, and under control. okay. fine. as soon as she was settled in, the dog was off leash, running around (as in, leash taken off, not "escaped"), pooping on everything, and barking all night. next morning, she was invited to go home. there was much rejoicing.

me? i like dogs a lot. they're good. esp when under control - which many dogs are not.

cats, parrots, snakes... don't make good camping buddies i should think. more like food :)

you'd think in a pristine environment people would do the right things, but many of them still litter and destroy what's around them without a though, and as a by product, let their kids and animals do this too. they ruin it for the many good ones, that nobody notices, because they leave no trace.

my camping season is largely over this year now. cold and rainy... Beckerhead TN gathering coming up, and i hope to make that. still recovering from last weekend, and i think i got a cold... but i've been thinking about what works, and what doesn't and why.

I agree with you Bladite, I think the next gathering out west here should be dog free unless they have a certified service animal.

I like dogs but dogs in the woods mean a few things to me, they poop place that you will step, the roll in and run through poison oak then want you to pet them, they beg for your food, and they scary away wildlife.

I have three dogs and they get along great...add a strange dog and there will be a fight and my dogs aren't fighting breeds ( Blue Heeler, Black Lab and a Lab mixed mutt) but dogs will be dogs. And whether they fight or not, they are crapping machines for damn sure. Yea I agree, leave your dogs home.

They also bite other guests and knock over your cups of whiskey. NO dogs next year.

My bag of steel for the trip, I weighed it at work before I left on Friday.

At the Gathering we have here, there will be dogs. They are Ethan's and they live there, we are the guests.

Other than that, I can't stand the damn things. Don't get me wrong, I've had them as pets before, but none currently and if I did, I'd leave their butts at home.

If a dog is well mannered, and their owner takes responsiblity for it, i.e. scoopin' up crap, and they don't bark all night, I'm good with it. But, in 33yrs, I haven't seen it happen yet, so, all of my organized events are sans pets.

I heard about a guy once that was asking if cats? made a good trail buddy. Not sure what happened there, but I'm sure it didn't go well.

I can't believe that no one took a pic of me using the BK5 in the chopping contest. I guess everyone was in shock to see that thing cut so damn well :D

( I could have won it but I wanted others to win the blades that didn't have any :D )
