I own quiet a few knives and i finally have hit the point where i go through the phases of collecting different types of knives. now i currently am into the heavy duty folder phase and after a lot of searching i decided to just post up a quick thread.

i own the zt0300, a dpx best, gerber 06 auto, millie, and a ak-47 and now am looking into the bench made 275 or a strider smf. I'm just looking for any short suggestions or opinions of must have heavy duty folders I'm missing out on

thanks

I would recommend the Strider. I personally like the SnG the most but based on your other knives you mentioned, the SMF being a little larger might fit you better. To me, Striders are THE beefy folder. I have never handled a more solid-feeling folder. Only other knife that was close was the Benchmade 755 MPR but it is a very short knife. The SnG I have is no problem to carry and for its size, is actually pretty light. just a solid knife. Definitely inspires confidence when you hear it lock up.

anyone have experience with HOGUE knives? i love the ex01

Boker Kalashnikov is beef-tastic as is the hossom retubution and the zt0200. Lion steel, lion spy and extremaratiousa, tops are all beefy as well. But if you want a brick is tops/buck Ats-34.

Cold Steel, Zero Tolerance, Strider......shoot for a Hinderer (that is the pinnacle)

The already mentioned Ontario Hossom Retribution 1, I think the large BM Bone Collector is a good one for this group. Another that has not been discussed much is the Boker Plus Field Marshall. It has .125"( 1/8") thick liners, and a .187"(3/16") thick blade. What I have read about it has sounded good, especially for it being ~$100 knife. The ZT0200 has already been mentioned, but bears mention again, as does the the new BM 275 Adamas, my current carry knife, as both of these knives are definate beef!

Btw, I forgot a couple I meant to add. One is the Spyderco Vallotton Sub Hilt, and the other is the Kershaw Speedform (original titanium version)

Spyderco Paramilitary 2 in M390 blade steel, from BBS. Outstanding knife and popularity.

It's discontinued, but if you can track one down, it's at least worth some consideration: Camillus CUDA Maxx 5.5.

SMF is defiantly the dope. I don't think "Beefy" necessarily means big. The ZT 0351 is not a huge knife but super beefy. I have owned and loved both.

The beefiest I own is the XM-24 and I love it. Not the beefiest but it's a big boy for sure!

Citadel/Fox Deimos is a very nice, large folder. Also, Spyderco Superleaf and Gayle Bradley are both very tough knives.

SMF. Particularly the aluminum iteration. Has a certain sculptural quality to it. You could roll it down a hill without any bits falling off. Feels like it belongs in an extraterrestrial toolbox.

You also might want to look at Three Sisters Forge blades. I've only seen pictures, but they look like they'd fit in that niche.

You didn't give a price point or what you think you might use it for - so here are some widely scattered suggestions.
Direware
Crusader Forge
Extrema Ratio
Strider
Pohl Force
ZT

If you are considering a SMF - you might also want to consider either a Strider AR / GB frame lock (same knife - AR is drop point blade, GB is tanto). The SMF lego is a really good knife.

I have an EX-01 tanto black alum scales - really nice knife and well made with good fit/finish, but I would categorize it as midway between lightweight and heavy duty. My Striders instill much more confidence for things like prying and hard cutting than my EX-01 does.
