Beefy Spyderco Folders

Recently, I got the Tuff, Techno and LionSpy. All overbuilt with quality steel, titanium and thick blades. Of course, blade lengths vary.

Any other similar Spyderco folders I'm missing?

No titanium, but the current Manix XL and old school Manix are mighty solid. You could probably throw the current Manix 2 in there.

The big Bradley folder, very tough M4 steel. Thickest SS liner lock I have ever seen. The Southard is pretty beefy imo as well, and I really like 204P. Manix XL, don't own one but hey XL is in the name:D.

Thanks all...

I do have a Brad Southard flipper and it IS beefy while also slim. My favorite Spyderco folder!

I did order a Gayle Bradley more for its blade length, CF scales and CPM M4 steel than blade thickness.

With the Bradley I'll have so many different blade steels all great in their own way: Southard, Tuff, Techno, LionSpy and Bradley.

I have to check out the Manix XL and the Vallotton.

Thanks again...

You should check out the leafstorm too, it meets your requirements.

Thanks. Good one.

Looking more for thicker blades like 0.15" or greater.

BLADE THICKNESS:

  1. LionSpy = 0.18"
  2. Techno = 0.177"
  3. Tuff = 0.157"
  4. Southard = 0.157"
  5. Vallotton = 0.156"
  6. Leaf Storm = 0.125"
  7. Manix2 XL = 0.125"
  8. Bradley = 0.118"

Did somebody mention the Chinook 3 yet?

I have that exact Chinook. Forgot about it until your picture. Thanks. I've had mine since 2006. Love the blade shape. I think mine has a partially serrated edge.

Will find it tomorrow and include a picture with the other beefy ones in my possession.

You're welcome. The chinook does turn heads with the thunk when it's opened. :)

So, there's a Chinook II and a Chinook 3. How would I know which one I have (doubtful the box is around)?

The chinook 3 is FFG and the Chinook 2 is hollow ground with handles tapped for 4 way position. The chinook 2 is also beefier than the 3. The chinook 1 is the beefiest of the 3 iterations. :)

Found my Chinook. So, II or 3? Probably II.

That's a II.

Thanks.

Now to clean it (especially dust off the G10) before putting it away. Still runs great with great authority. With the serrations mine looks like an alligator.
