Beefy Spyderco Folders

I've settled on the following for my "beefy" Spyderco folders. The only one I don't have is the Vallotton but I just ordered it. Posted pictures of the six I do have: Tuff, SpyKer, LionSpy, Southard and Techno. Added Chinook II standalone picture.

Any more with higher quality steel and 0.156" blade thickness or better?

Don't forget the Starmate. 0.157 saber ground blade.

I like it and will add it to the list. Heard it was very well-balanced. Weighs a good ounce less than those others on the list with 3.7"+ blades. Wish the steel blade was better but it's good enough.

Code:
[SIZE=3][U][B]Model Name & No. Steel Length Thickness Weight[/B]
Starmate C55G VG-10 3.75 0.157 4.9

Your list makes me want to pick up a Tuff as if I didn't want one already. Love my techno/gb/southard.

Thanks. Good one.

Looking more for thicker blades like 0.15" or greater.

BLADE THICKNESS:

  1. LionSpy = 0.18"
  2. Techno = 0.177"
  3. Tuff = 0.157"
  4. Southard = 0.157"
  5. Vallotton = 0.156"
  6. Leaf Storm = 0.125"
  7. Manix2 XL = 0.125"
  8. Bradley = 0.118"

The Leaftstorm is actually pretty beefy when u see it in person. Leafstorm is 3.5mm, Southard 4mm, Techno 4.5mm. for such a tiny knife, you'd be surprised ;)

That Leaf Storm is tiny. Spyderco shows it with a blade thickness of 3mm (0.125") not 3.5mm. Anyway, I really like the Leaf Storm due to its compact size, titanium back and frame lock.

Found another...in my pocket.
The SuperLeaf. Measures 0.157. Second in row from the bottom. A little thicker than the PM2, also a compression lock.

All awesome Spyderco models!! The Szabo has a pretty monster size blade on it - quite thick at.157". Cheers.

The Yojimbo2 has a .156" blade. Also, kind of similar to the Vallotton is the upcoming Hungarian. Has the same thick rounded handle and big SS bolsters.

Yes. I really like the blade thickness and carbon fiber. Almost bought one about a month ago. Just can't get used to the blade shape, profile and spine. Also, with a blade of 4.6 inches it's too long for me for a folder.

I like the Yojimbo2 with a 3.1" blade that's 0.156" thick. Effective cutter and light at just 4 ounces.

Here's my new updated list (blade steel, length and thickness included):

The three I don't have from the above list are Vallotton, Starmate and Yojimbo 2 but they should get here sometime this week.

Thanks for input from all posters in this thread which allowed me to add these three new worthy candidates. Please keep them coming.

The Starmate's low weight is helped out by the skeletonized liners. It is very well balanced, like all of Terzuola's designs, feels lighter than it actually is. Although not a flipper, it opens like greased lightening once you clear the detent. Very flickable if that's your preference in both tip up/down configurations. Myself, I think it's perfect for the spydie-drop.

I handled a Starmate at a knife show a couple of weeks ago and had the same experience. I was really surprised at the extremely smooth and fast deployment.

Like the 3.1" blade but thickness is 0.125" and weighs in at 5.3 ounces for a little guy. I really like the grip.

PPT definitely feels beefy in hand between the THICK liners and the Anso texture...

Get one before they're gone!!
