Been away 10 years, what key knives have I missed?

Go back to sleep.

The original Manix is better than the Manix II.

The Benchmade Rukus is still the best beastly folder ever made.

However, you could get David Mary to replace your H1 blade with Vanax SuperClean, which is truly stainless and holds a much, much better edge than H1, while taking a killer, fine-grained edge.

You missed grossly overpaying for a Spyderco Slysz Bowie on the secondary market.
A lot of people apparently have Koenig and Shiro money.
Half Face is doing their thing with a SHPOS
If that's the only place to get one, then you HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY.
It's always been this way....
It IS a great knife...

Sarcasm can be tricky in text-based formats.

While at least a few people liked or seemed interested in the Spyderco Stovepipe, many of us responded with raised eyebrows or facepalms. It certainly wasn't my cup of tea.

You definitely missed all these key knives:

Reemergence of USA made blades, namely GEC, and the subsequent crazy prices they bring and how hard it is for the average collector to afford one. Possible, but they go quick. Just my two cents, do not want to start any arguments as we all have different opinions.

Another related topic, knife laws are getting better or less restrictive, depending on the area. Also, the emergence of more better quality Chinese knives, (very fiery topic of course and what companies you look at.)

lastly, there Are several makers now making quality affordable custom knives, checking out the exchange is fun. and Fiddleback forge is still making great blades and Andy has a big influence on apprentices coming out of his program, providing us buyers with a variety of designs which are beautiful working pieces.

after all these years i still feel that the spyderco endura and cold steel voyager are two of the best pocket knives for the money, they are well made and affordable, very reliable, and should last a lifetime if not abused

Off topic…I barely sleep, so I wanna know what your Dr is prescribing you.

I’m almost in the same boat and wasn’t very interested in the hobby…. Been away for many years. This year suddenly got the urge to buy some Microtechs OTF (having never owned autos) and have a pre-order on a Shaman with the tumbled finish.

I too was worried about compression/blade interference on Shaman. However, I tried one and found I never have my finger on the lock when it nears closing. = non-issue for me.

OP: Even 10 years didn't teach you ... you are missing some fixed blades :)

I had a Shaman and sold it, at a reasonable price mind you! I agree about the compression lock, just doesn't suit me either and agree that pricing all around has been trying to keep up with gas prices I think!! I mean some things are just so far out there, it's crazy.
as to what to recommend? The latest craze that is actually pretty good and talking about an axis lock, this I think might be handier, a shark lock

that's the D2 variant which I have read has a little thinner blade grind behind the edge, mine cuts great and handles well too.

Good luck on your search!

You were THIS close to escape...
Since you're back; and the rabbit hole is deeper than ever:
Welcome to our nightmare! 😁

I still remember how excited i got coming across a few designs from the Shirogorov/Sinkevich collaboration....that's until i found out what they were selling for...
I can describe the feeling like checking the a_s of a fine woman with long blond hair in front of you but then realizing that it's a dude!

Vero and Giantmouse are two companies I would look at also.
I am really confused about the the Vero Synapse....for me, the show side looks really great, i mean every time i see it i think that i really want one, but that notch on the clip side side really bugs me.
I can describe the feeling like che..... WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME? 🤣
