Beginner into knives

Welcome Pia! It is always good to have a woman show up here. You offer a perspective I think we men could benefit from often. It is also very good to have another non-American around. We get pretty insular sometimes.

I certainly wouldn't argue with either the Spyderco Native Ltwt or the Calypso Jr Ltwt. For the price, both provide a lot of knife.

But, for even less money, I would strongly suggest the Outdoor Edge -- Edge Tech -- Paragee. It sells for somewhere around $40, I believe. I like this knife very much. It is designed by one of the best custom knife makers, Darrel Ralph, and is very well made. It has about a 3" blade, which is fairly slim, slightly recurved -- which improves cutting -- and has a frame lock. This is a very strong, safe lock. I happen to think the knife is very good looking also.

Again, welcome. Hope we see you around often!

Thank you all for the amount of good advices. The hard time comes now, as I´ll have to decide which one to buy.

As it looks now, the most frequent advice is the Spyderco Calypso JR and Delica. I shall consider both carefully. (Took a look at them on Spyderco´s home page, very nice!)

Thanks again for your efforts,
Pia :)

This is great, we (i) do need more Swedish members here :)

I do think that you'rew the first Swedish women here?! cool :)

Ha det bra!

Hello Pia,
Welcome to BFC!!!:)

I would like to suggest the Tim Wegner designed Spyderco Mouse and also a Mike Sastre made "Mousetrap" neck sheath.

I bought this knife for my wife and she just loves it.
I highly recommned both of these items as they are top quality and can be purchased for just about $100.00 USD.

As you can see both of these items can be purchased from BladeArt but there are other dealers who sell them as well. The "Mouse", as far as I know, is only available through Tim Wegner's own company Blade-Tech, A.G. Russell, and the already mentioned BladeArt.

Good Luck with your "knife hunting" and I'll see you around.

Pia;

Welcome, and I also will suggest the older model of the M2 Mini-AFCK. Mine is ALWAYS clipped to my back pocket.
HOWEVER, if you don't insist on a pocket knife then I suggest you look at the Fallkniven WM1 with the neck sheath. Its VG-10 steel, has a handle designed to fit a womans hand and with it around your neck and tucked inside a shirt you will forget you are carrying it until you need it. Of course any of the Spyderco knives are great buys also.

Dog lover too!

Spyderco Military and Starmate, you can get either for around $100 and both represent some of the best knives ever made. The steel is CPM 440V which holds a world class edge and is highly rust resistant. As Spyderco knives, they both represent amazing quality and value.

The Military has loads of belly for skinning and a very fine tip. The Starmate is a more chubby performer, but has a more sturdy tip and a good belly.
