Thanks for the suggestions in the snark thread, peeps. Recently, I realized that 6 years later, I have reached 2000 posts! I found BF while looking for info on how to etch a blade, and from there it's been a wild ride. Learned tons, interacted with great people, and always been amazed by the generous wealth of freely given knowledge that pushed me step by step to go ahead and sure, why not, make knives. Not to mention it's been sooooo fun! It's only fitting that I do this here, as the Becker sub-forum is my favorite cyber-space ever, period. Uncle E & company have made this corner a magical one.

Nevertheless, people who support this place are the ones that keep it going, so I would like to make this GAW available for paying members, Beckerheads/KaBar Krew or not. I will keep it simple and even as I'm sorely tempted to just pick the idea that appeals the most, I will use a random # generator to choose the winner. The GAW will run for one week starting today, 12/5/16 @ 2000 EST, and a winner chosen either the night of the 12th or morning of the 13th.

So.....what is it? simple, again. Describe to me a knife you would like me to make, and if you are chosen, well it's yours! Keep in mind that said knife will take some time to profile/grind/send to Peter's for HT, then come back to me to finish, but I'm guessing you won't mind the wait. Rules are also simple, this knife is limited to what I have in stock right now, which is:

- 1 bar of 1/8" thick 1084, like 1.5" wide
- 1 bar of 5/32" thick Hitachi super blue # 2, like 1.5" wide
- several colors of G10 in various thickness for scales and liners
- homemade mycarta
- pieces of wood - some I recognize, some forgot to label
- brass/stainless rods & tubes
- leather
- kydex

...and a max length of 9" oal. So it could be a necker, fancy hunter, tweener wannabee, etc. Just describe it, and be very specific with details. I will keep a back and forth with the winner to fine tune the blade.

So go ahead, and I will do my best to provide a quality knife. Merry Christmas to all!

I'll get the ball rolling so someone else will have a chance of winning. :)
gaucho knife with tweener style handles - either steel, wood scales or mycarta with liners, brass pins, leather sheath

Im in thx for the chance !!!! Recently got my beckerhead stat too!!! Tweeter style handle, darker wood, leather pants if yah could do scandi grind either steal or really any grind for basically a small camp knife

Thx for the chance!!!

Tweeter style handle. Definitely a trend!
I would vote for a 5.5-6 in trailing point. With the 9in oal limit, I would go with a partial tang. Mycarta with liners. Brass pins. Nice slicy grind.
Call it a homage to the fallen bk15.
Thanks.

Low heel for help in chopping in kitchen (we all know we like to use our knives whenever possible!) and keeping your knuckles off the ground or stump when cutting in camp.

Lots of belly for slicing and a tip higher than midpoint on the scales to aid in skinning, cleaning and breaking down game (Being a Butcher by trade, I am Very comfortable with a Trailing point).

Straight back will also work for impromptu wood processing and ferro rod usage, (I use the spine for shaving/scraping a chunk of fatwood and making some cedar/pine dust and very fine cedar/pine scrapings).

A Very ergonomic and easy to index handle shape. Can easily adjust blade down to 2 3/4" and keep about 3/4" of flat edge (while retaining full size belly), or lengthen the blade to 5" and handle out to 4" with a hidden lanyard hole.
Overall height can be worked on.

Will work will with a Saber grind or flat grind depending on projected usage, but a ffg would be preferred for slicing.

I know a picture is worth a thousand words, but I figured I would offer the words too.

Good luck folks and enjoy your Holidays!

Sweet!, congrats on 2k. Have very much liked the blades have seen on exchange that you've made during the last year.

Welp, since some ahole has stolen my 14 rescently wouldn't mind getting another necker, even tho still got my 24,;) I perfer 1095 over d2.

So, here's a bad drawing, would like to be neck carriable, 3.5-4.5" blade, wood bolsters, textured micarta scales, brass tubes, kydex or leather if can make a leather sheath to securely hold a necker, ;) have not seen one but would be awesome as perfer feel of leather, jimping, swedge, .15 super blue sounds great, more or less a clip point 14 with bigger handle. Think would look/perform pretty well if done by right person, all the trail point talk sounds good too though.

Thanks for the chance Zulu!, Happy Holidays everybody!

Very cool GAW - a very special one for sure.

I have two ideas and I can't decide, so here's both:

Handle could be tweener style (but I'd leave it open for moderate changes or tweaking), trailing point blade, thin grind, nice pointy tip, choil to choke up on. Blade should be somewhere in the 4.5-5.5 range. Handle material is open for discussion, if I was going with the Super Blue, I'd probably be partial to a nice dark G10 with moderate texturing OR a nicely figured medium or dark wood. Definitely a fancy BK15 style!

Loveless style with a harpoon blade. Swedge won't be sharpened, but will be tapered to the point and may have a "false edge" on it. Blade length should be 4-4.5. Ranger green/OD Green G10 with a medium texture.

Thanks again :)

seems like the BK15 is the sentimental favorite, lol. I will order more steel today, but doubt I will get it before this is over; I plan to start profiling as soon as a winner is selected.

Such a cool GAW, cannot wait to see what the winner ends up with.

I would like something like a cross between a Nessmuk and a Kephart. A thinner Nessmuk, or a Kephart with a swell toward the front. Probably 3.5-4 inch blade. I have a "butcher" knife in my kitchen that I always go to by Tedron Swords that I enjoy and would love to see as a camp knife. Something with either G10 or Micarta handles maybe with an inner liner of a contrasting color. Kydex sheath is always a favorite but leather may be more traditional for a traditional shaped knife. That super blue steel is something I've lusted over, and some basic contouring of the handles would make it to die for.

What an awesome gaw! Congrats on the 2000. I usually leave the giveaways to others more deserving, but this is just too sweet. If I was fortunate enough to win, I'd love a 1084 tweener handle in osage orange married to a Grohmann #4 blade. Thanks for the opportunity and best of luck to all!

just ordered a bunch of steel from Aldo, if it arrives in a timely fashion winner will be able to select from 80 CRV2, AEB-L, 52100, 1075 & CPM 154.

Damn - I've been lucky enough to handle one of your blades at a visit to RaySettanta's place. I'd opt for CPM 154 in a fighterized 16 - I've got plenty of drawings if I should be so lucky. Kinda like if a BRKT Bravo, the Sweet Sixteen and Steve Austin (the Six Million Dollar Man one) had a mutant love child - with it's genetic structure altered to make it stainless. To complete the package for the "use it hard and put it away wet" kinda guy I am, I'd opt for G10 and Kydex to make it better, stronger, faster.....

Awesome Idea! I have always been intrigued by the idea of designing my own knife. Here's what I would choose:

4.75'' blade
4.25'' handle
Handle should have a pretty plan shape in the x and y dimensions with no finger grooves or shapes that would make multiple grips uncomfortable. In the z dimension, I would want substantial thickness for my big hands with a good swell. Fairly coke-bottle shaped. I wouldn't want a pronounced finger guard. I think the handle would look awesome if it was neutral colors, but two tone. Like mostly wood, but with a thick micarta bolster. Probably a darker wood with a lighter micarta to contrast. Maybe bright G10 liners to add some color.
Blade would be a significant drop point, but not quite a spear point. I like a bit more belly than most spear point blades. The grind would either be a high saber, or a high convex. No jimping or ramp, just a flat 90 degree spine. 1/8'' and 5/32'' are my favorite sizes of stock. I would be happy with either.

Essentially, I'd like a mix of a good bushcraft knife and a hunting knife that has a blade a little longer than the commonly-found 4'' mark.

The sheath would be very plain: a simple pouch-style leather sheath. I don't prefer danglers, but I want it to sit low enough on my belt that it wouldn't interfere with a multi-day pack.

Thank you for the opportunity!

What a great GAW!
Congrats on 2K Zulu!

I'll play...
I'd opt for a Super Blue slicer. Thin, thin edge. Full flat grind.
A cross between a Fiddleback Forge Bushfinger and one of Daizee's Hunter Utility's.
4" blade, 4 1/2" handle, black G10 scales with SS tubes and a leather dangler.

Thanks for the chance!:thumbup::thumbup:

I am new here so I am still working on my Beckerhead designation. I have a few topics that I am cooking up, more on that later. This sub-forum, aside from another, are my two favorites here and I am having a blast. Easily beats out any social media outlet and has become my favorite forum, period.

I have been a huge fan of Becker knives ever since I learned of their existence. I own a few, have gifted others, and have converted many more to Becker ownership. What I desire in a knife, and its what draws me to Beckers in the first place, is a simple, sturdy, functional user. Clean lines, simple construction, and built to outlive us mortal beings. So naturally, I am a big fan of Kephart style blades and have long hoped that BKT will produce one some day.

If I were to be so fortunate and honored to have you make a blade, I would have to go with a Kephart style:

Thickness: 1/8"
Width: 1.5" (I like a broader blade compared to Kephart's original specs.)
Blade Length: 5" (A bit longer then Kephart's design, but suits my needs.)
Handle Length: 4.5"
Handle Materials: Bog Oak is one of my favorites, but I will go with any dark hardwood available (I can even provide scale material if necessary), brass pins and liners (if available)

Thank you to everyone here who makes this such a cool place to hang out and much thanks to zuluninja for the generous GAW.

I'm definitely in! Thank you for the chance.

Here's my thinking:

Super Blue
Blade roughly 3.75", in a drop point (profile similar to BK14/11/24 but slightly stretched out), high saber grind.
Handle about 4.5"ish, with shape almost like a Mora Companion.
G10 scales (color and thickness would depend on what you have, but i tend to gravitate to more subdued sorta colors)
kydex sheath with a drop loop in it so the butt of the knife handle lines up with the top of the belt.
Stainless pins.

Would make for a seriously badass EDC/woods carry knife.
Oh man... now I really want that knife... i hope I win.
Thanks again for the chance, That's awesome of you.

I'd like a Nessmuk in Hitachi super blue, with G10 liner, wood scales and leather pants. And some of your awesome etching, if that's an option.

And super-cool giveaway.

some pretty cool ideas, guys, keep em coming. Mike, which blade of mine did you handle?

I'm in. Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

I would love a Loveless style drop point hunter to give to my son for when he starts hunting with me.
Material CPM 154
Overall length 8.5"
Blade Length 4"
Handle material G10
Brass pins
Leather sheath

Thanks again for the chance.
