Belt kit

I second the motion for adding a rifle. (Notice I didn't put a smiley at the end.)

Sure, it won't fit in the bag, but in a true survival situation would prove FAR more valuable than 90% of the stuff you do have in there.

What do you guys think about one of those .22 pistols? Like Ruger or S&W?

I've always liked those and I had the chance to fire one recently and loved it! Seems for compactness it would be the way to go.

I was thinking of adding one to my mini BOB as a small game getter.

Once again, this is a BELT KIT, I have a BOB with alot of the other items mentioned. I have larger knives, saws, all the larger stuff mentioned in the bigger BOB. I also have several firearms to choose from to carry with me.
Nic I have a Ruger MK2 an it is an excellent small caliber pistol, I set it up with a Surefire light and a scope it's awesome.

I notice you mention a knife in the altoids tin as well as the CRKT. I am guessing this is for redundancy. Anyway, have you considered a SAK instead of the CRKT? Any of the smallest ones that has a saw blade would be good, in my opinion. Since this is backup in case you get seperated from your BOB it is good to have as many multi use tools as possable if they dont take up too much room.

Just a thought.

I've got a Leatherman Wave multi tool in the pouch, very good little tool and yes there is a lot in there for redundancy.
Hotrod, I read a story recently about some people in Costa Rica or someplace down south getting attacked by wasps and dropping their survival packs to run faster. They spent an uncomfortable night in the jungle with no gear, I figured this way it's on your belt so you'll have it with you when or if you need to dump your BOB. I believe it's better than having just an Altoid tin.
Big Target, thinking of using the Fatboy Versapack instead on the M1, yeah it looks like a man purse but hey if it works what the he**.

I experimented with a belt kit a couple of years ago. Called it my camkit or camera case kit. Here are a couple of photos of it. The camera case has a strap for over the shoulder carry and a belt loop for belt carry. There is a pouch on the case and evidently the photo of the contents of the pouch was lost when the hosting site moved. It contained a CRKT folder, a spark-lite, cordage and ID documentation. A camkit lives in the cab of our truck. The one shown was changed into a vest kit (the wife wanted her camera case back):p Anyway, thought I'd pass it on to ya as food for thought. Camera cases like this are inexpensive to buy and have room enough for a nice sized kit.

LOL I thought I invented that one!! I have a small Tamrac camera bag that I use as a mini BOB.

Man, you know you hang with the right crowd when...

lol :D

I just got my hans on an EMS(Eastern Mountain Sport) belt pouch. I think I have enough "stuff to make a belt rig like that!!!:D

bought a nice fanny pack about 5yrs ago... holds more than enough stuff(filled, the interior is 3x5x8") and has a space for a 1l water bottle on the side(like an empty coke bottle)... I still use my biking waterbottle for bushwork though. 1l bottle with a shoulder strap and insulated holder.

FYI, if you carry pouches like the maxpedition or EMS,dump the shoulder strap and replaceit with 60ft of ladder laced 550 paracord.

Comfy yet practical!!;)

How about a gill net? They work so well, they're illegal, but in a survival situation where fish are a realistic food option . . . I have one for my belt kit (M-14 clip pouch) that's about the size of a deck of cards and weighs 3.5 oz. About 8' x 2' deployed. Also a frog/fish gig is worth considering if fish and frogs are around in shallow water. Also, I certainly second the whistle if you're in heavy timber or brush.

Picked up a frog spearhead trying to get a gill net. Have to start putting this stuff in a bigger pouch.
