In my limited experience, I have found that canvas Micarta is stinky, but fairly easy to shape and finish. I treat it like wood for shaping and can get a slick, shiny finish with a 4-5 inch Home Depot buffing wheel clamped into a variable speed hand drill using gray compound. Now that may not apply to some of the homemade 'Mycarta" composites that use marine epoxy.
