Ben Sewad, JS ~ Eclipse

Beautiful work and this is a great mind puzzler. It's fun to look at and imagine how you did it. Now that you mention that the guard and the extensions are one piece, I am wondering how you can slide a flared piece into that handle... fun.

Thanks Caleb for such a great photo and that you can click onto it for the macro view. Really shows how finely finished this knife is..

This goes to show that when stubbornness is sufficiently directed, one can get exceptional results.

That's one thing this youngster has! Stubbornness! :)

Great knife!

Stuart, it really is a puzzle fit. The guard slides into the handle from the side, then the tang goes through both. The radiuses behind the lugs keep the handle material from spreading once it's in place...lots of little details that had to be worked out on paper before I could even start. I also have a full integral version that will be at the Little Rock show as well as this one...almost finished with it so stay tuned.

That turned out awesome Ben. The complexity and uniqueness of that build almost overshadow the stunning koa and the killer hamon in the steel. Almost. :)

You pulled it off beautifully Buddy! Can't wait to see more.

Wow. I'd love to see a dissassembled pic to figure out the how that puzzle piece fits.

I'll try for a WIP thread on one in a couple of months. I'm planning on a variant for BLADE. I also should be filling an order for a stag handle version in a few weeks. That one has some new twists that'll take some experimening...my job is so much fun!

Beautiful job Ben - now I'm even MORE sorry I can't make Arkansas !

outside the box, but still "Seward" - I'm also a fan of the Koa :D

great pictures Caleb

A Damascus version would be very cool

One thinks that the fixed blade knife has been full explored.... then something innovative and beautiful appears and sets a new design milestone!!!

Thanks, guys! Kevin, my plan is to have a damascus version it BLADE...hope to take the design to another level with some fun new things. I'm should have my shop tooled up for full scale damascus production in about a month. I've been making a little but after the upgrades I should be able to go at it. Hoping to get a lot of practice with damascus this spring since I'm planning on starting the Mastersmith dagger this summer...
