Bench Stones

Regarding SOS pads and cleaning ceramic. Joe is right Spyderco (sal) was wrong. I tried them after hearing about it on the forum and they work fine. Live and learn.

This may be a silly question (it would not be my first) but what is an SOS pad?

Oh my....can you spell b-a-c-h-e-l-o-r?

SOS Pads..found at the grocery store, in the
cleaning section...little balls of steel wool-like stuff with soap inside. Miracle
product!

You might find them as Brillo pads or whatever. They are steel wool pads loaded with detergent, sold under the cleanser section for cleaning metal pots and pans.

Thanks folks, Brillo pads it is. I use them to clean my Gatstix rods

I actually do allmost all the ironing in our house, and have for the past 3 months done all the cleaning as well (my wife is (very) heavy with child

)

That is until about two weeks ago as my wife has been nesting and trying to bring on the labour as she is now a week overdue and according to a scan at 32 weeks it was 6lb's then and so I hate to think what it will be at birth.

I know we speak the same language (ish) but it is amazing the amount of things on the forums that I have had to ask a translation for.

I stopped by Stoddards today(See GB&E forum) and they had both the ultra-fine and the medium stones, $46. I didn't buy any, but I also didn't have any money.

What sizes are the benchstones offered in and how fast does the coarsest one cut? Can you use really hard pressure on it and not be worried about damaging it like a diamond?

Ralf, my dad uses spit whenever he's sharpening a knife using a natural stone.. Dunno, but it seems to do wonders to making the edge razor sharp.

It comes out polished too! hehehe..

Danelle, are these SOS pads the same steel wool that looks like a fluff and thin as hair? A friend brought in some before, and we use these super fine steel wool to clean anything from chrome-plated car parts, to windshields (water spots that are a pain to get rid of!) at my car repair shop.

Or are we talking about regular tough steel wool that has the same consistency as the 3M green pads? I used the plastic pads, and the steel particles didn't all come off the ceramic, but saw a puddle of green stuff floating in the water!!

Oh yeah, I got the Profiler Set that I told you that time (Thanks Marti and Chris of ToTK!)... pretty cool sharpening stones! Looks like candy... I hope my daughter doesn't think it's candy... it might sharpen her teeth as well.. lol!!

Dan

Can anybody help me out here?!

Where can I buy them on the net? Preferrably one that will ship internationally..
