Benchmade 14205 HK Axis Knife

Just be careful of the point. Even closed, it point of the blade can nick your finger tips if you poke in between the liners. Ask me how I know. ;)

have the 14200 love the knife and yes the point is a little hard on the hands if you dont have a lanard attached because the skin on my palm tended to get pushed in between the liners when i closed it and it would make a nice deep cut on my palm. fixed that with a lanyard tho

hi,
I just picked up a HK 14450SBT Auto Axis in a trade and came upon this thread. I have a question about the auto version. I am afriad to open and close it because I am thinking it will wear out the spring. Is it true that opening the HK Auto axis will wear out or weaken the spring?

BTW I like the feel and strength of this knife. It is growing on me more by the minute.

The axis auto uses a coil spring which if made and tempered properly will last near the lifetime of the knife. Best to have the coil spring relaxed just a bit by having the blade locked open when not in use for a long period. In fact all auto benefit from having it stored open so the spring will not take the set from long periods of being under tension. Just be careful of the point when the blade is closed and enjoy a very well made folder by Benchmade.

I read a post yesterday when the guy bought a Microthech Halo that was sitting on a shelf of a dealer in a closed position for 10 years, turned out to be just fine. So may be it's a myth and in a real world open or closed storage plays no role.

I have 14205, and really like it. The extra weight of the blade helps when folding it with one hand, it just snaps back in closed position with a little push of the index finger while moving the axis with a thumb. The only thing I'd like to improve is a blade finish. I want to try to satin finish it, using a steel wool.

I have a 5000A over five years, using and storing. The spring is fine as first day.

No worries.

A 14205BT came to me last week. Well nice size. A little smaller closed than the 520 and not as heavy and is easier to carry edc. The axis does not "snap in" like it does on the 14210 or the 520, when closed, but is safe and strong. It features a thicker blade, but would i do anything with it, i wouldn´t do with a 520? I guess i wouldn´t. Even though i really like the knife because of its fat blade.

Been there done that. It cut me before I realized it. Pissed me off good too because those kind of paper cuts are the worst kind. I'd rather really cut myself. Anyway, I fixed that right quick. Mine can't cut me anymore.

Yes it is a great knife. The liners IIRC are aluminum. The blade is really thick so I think that it is what adds to the weight as well. This is quite possibly the smoothest BM out there. Very under rated.

I've had some smooth bm's in my day...:D

+1 for Benchmades

As far as a spring setting in closed position, the only way that could happen is if the knife were exposed to very high temperatures, as far as I know.
