Benchmade 485 Valet. I will have this!

Believe me, I'm already thinking about the selling the Sequel because it's too darn short for me. So yes, another .07" is a deal-breaker.

Some of Benchmade's prices don't make sense to me.

The 485/581/586 are all around the same price featuring G10 and M390. The 808 Loco is G10 and S30v and is $230. The shot show Rukus is G10 and S30v at $200 for a LE model (overpriced to me). The Rift is G10 and 154CM for Almost as much as the M390 knives listed before. Custom version comes out with a slight upgrade to the steel still around the same price as the M390 knives listed. The Contego is a beast of a knife and has CPM M4 and costs less than the rest.

I see your point, and agree. The same could also be said in the context that the Grip/Mini Grips shouldn't cost nearly as much as they do given that they use FRN and (generally) lower premium steels (154, D2 etc), the handles are injection molded and the design doesn't require any highly complex machining beyond what most knife manufacture requires.

That said, their irregular pricing model to model can partially be attributed to set up costs and economies of scale but it is also a bit frustrating...and then there's MAP enforcement...Pandora is on vacation so I won't touch that box...

Coward! ;) :D

Opportunity cost rules in my world. I don't have an unlimited amount of money to spend on knives, so I almost never make a purchase without weighing what I'm giving up by doing so. So far, I haven't been able to bring myself to purchase a Benchmade since they began enforcing MAP (or UPP or whatever you want to call it) pricing. My opportunity cost calculator consistently seems to favor other products from other makers these days. Your calculator may produce different results.

I'm just now hearing of this blade. Gotta say it seems just right for me. I love my Benchmade 470-1 and the 485 kind of reminds me of it. Should be a real winner.

I agree with Blade & Flame, it would be perfect with Ti scales! Although it would certainly cost more I have a thing for titanium. Initially I like the overall look a bit more than my 470 Emissary and I will look forward to checking one of these out sometime.

I just realized the 485 is almost the same exact size of my 707. I thought it looked a little bigger than that just looking at the pictures. Need to see some comparison pics if it could bump the 707.

Titanium scales and retain the Axis lock... I would pre order if that was the case. As it stands now you have to do a Grip with Wilkens Scales to get that combo which I plan on doing next month

I will own a 485 as soon as they are available. This is a great office/work EDC size with a high quality blade. Deep carry and slim in the pocket. Love it!

I want the 485 so bad I keep checking KW, KC and BHQ websites so I can buy it ASAP. Money burning a hole in my pocket waiting!! Oh and that HK mini Axis is on my list too!!

So, despite the numbers (new offerings) for this year it looks like this will be the one to buy. Watching the Shot vid only makes it clear.

Sadly, this. Was initially excited about the 808 but the production pictures killed it.

All though the ZT 450 and 808 are looking nice

Full liners? I hope so. It appears to have full liners in the 2015 Shot Show video. I will pick this up and make new scales. My M390 707 with custom scales is my favorite knife. This will be some competition for it.

I'm hoping they go straight to production without the "limited" initial run. I don't care for writing on the blades either.
