Benchmade 485 Valet. I will have this!

How is the centering on that new 485?

Perfect.

For that matter, it's worth noting that all 3 of the new Benchmades I bought yesterday were centered perfectly.

Is this what you're looking for?
It's a 3 finger knife for me and the end of the knife is supported by my pinky knuckle.

Thanks! That confirms my suspicion. Unless the handle extends at least to the outside edge of my pinky, I cannot get a firm purchase on the knife . . . especially when I open and close it. One trick I use with short-handled folders is to put a lanyard on the end of the handle and grip the lanyard with my pinky for stability. But I generally tend to avoid knives with less than 4" handles. In fact, I only have 3 knives with handles that are less than 4" long . . . two Benchmades (a Mini-Grip and a Sequel) and a William Henry. The William Henry is a keeper because it's a safe queen. The Mini-Grip is a keeper as well because it's a limited run (M4) and I can use the lanyard trick to hang onto it comfortably. But with a 3.80" handle, my relationship with the Sequel will probably be short-lived unless I can figure out a way to mount a lanyard on it. Hmmmm. Time to talk to Keyman, I think . . .

Mine has a tiny bit of side to side blade play. Trying to get it worked out but not 100% success yet.
Might have to remove the blade and clean up the washers etc.
Do love he knife hope I can fix it.

I would really like to know when someone acquires a non "first production" knife. There only 1,000 I hear and I've seen 521 posted so they must be going fast. I hope to catch an early standard production.
Thanks in advance.

Can someone please post a pic of the 485 with a 707 Sequel If possible. I would appreciate that.
Thank you

Damn. Almost ordered one and just hoped to not get a marked up blade.

Knives in the 700s are on eBay they have to be getting close to pureblades

I fondled one these 485's today and I came away very impressed. Can't stop thinking about it. Trying to hold on to my funds for one of the new ZT knives but.............

I was picking up an order and saw this little beauty. #300 followed me home today. It's perfectly centered, no blade play and is very comfortable to carry. I wear a med ladies glove and have a full grip on the knife.

Received my 485 Valet and checked it thoroughly and can't find a fault! Very slim EDC. You can get four fingers on the fingers if you hold it further up but it's mostly 3 fingers but the pinkie still helps secure the bottom of the knife. The last picture is next to a 707 Sequel.

To quote the OP, "I will have this", too! That dude looks awesome and it's the perfect size.

This one looks like a winner and has me very tempted!

Does anyone have any comments on the action? My 940-1 has the smoothest action of any axis folder I have owned. How does this one compare? I am debating grabbing this one or a 707. Any thoughts?

The action on the 485 is not as smooth as on the 940-1. The 485 seems to have a stronger detent. Also, because everything on it is smaller to keep it extra slim the thumb stud needs to be engaged starting at the 6 o'clock position and pushing straight up. I'd take the 485 over 707 for sure and I'm a big fan of 707 from my first one in August 2005.

Try the Benchmade Nakamura in carbon fiber. Very smooth action. That knife is awesome

Although the blade moves very smoothly and easily it is a little harder to get this one past the detent than any other Benchmade I own. It's not that the detent is especially strong, it's just that the recess in the scale behind the thumb stud is so small and shallow that I can only get the tiniest piece of my thumb behind it. It's still easy enough and worth a little extra effort for the slim profile and the 2/3 size axis lock on days when I want a small slim EDC.

I had one for a few day's and sold it, I found it was not for me. The handle is to small and the thumb stud was to hard to operate. Great knife just not for me.

Thanks for the comments on the action of this one, guys. I am still pretty tempted. I may wait until I see a good deal on a used one in the exchange. It looks like a great knife!
