Sure wish Benchmade would put that drop point blade grind from the 531 on the 530. I had a REI blue 530, but couldn't find myself partial to the spear point. The drop point is perfect for that knife. Drool...

So where do we begin the lobbying for a production 531? Time to start knocking on some doors...

+1 on this thread. I like the design behind the 530, i just dont understand why they decided to use a spearpoint design. The blade is thin enough, the tip strength concerns me. The 531 would be a perfect design of a lightweight and functional edc

Maybe we should kick it around the Bemchmade forum. Never know, a distributor may make a LE run. That would be SWEET!

Had to dig this thread back up. Wishes do come true! We have a 531 production knife in 2014 from Benchmade. I should have wished for at least S30V steel. Well 154CM will have to do and is pretty good, proven steel. Excited for this one!

That sounds great! Do you know when its official release be?

No I wish I did. I have asked that very question here on BF and the Benchmade forum. The 940-1 is said to release 2nd quarter of this year. I hope the 531 is sooner as it is a little cheaper. I will own both; I may skip lunch often, but I will own both.

I'm excited about the 531 release, too. And with G10 scales! I see that the weight increases to 2.1 oz (vs. 1.88)... not significant in my view. Sold!

531 will release March 30th! I've purchased one already from my local distributor. Now it's a waiting game...

I like the fact that they are offering the 53x series in G-10 but the gray and black G-10 doesn't really do it for me. I might have to pick one up and try a RIT dye treatment on them.

Very excited for the 531. Didn't think the 530 could get any sexier, but Benchmade proved me wrong. If only it had an S30V blade, it would be even better. I'll definitely be picking one up

I agree! S30V would be a nice improvement. They could have left the 530 in 154CM and upgraded the new 531 with S30V. I will like it nonetheless.

On the BM website, the specs, as it relates to dimensions, are the same for both the 530 and 531. I was thinking the 531 would have been a tad thicker in the handle, due to the G10, however that doesn't seem to be the case. Interesting...

I'm all for the 531. the G10 is a HUGE improvement and the grind is so much better as well. I will be looking for one of these to try out for sure.

I see that both BladeHQ and KnifeCenter are taking pre-orders for the 531 @ $131.75. BladeHQ only wants $5.00 down and won't charge the rest, until it ships, however it appears they charge for shipping. KnifeCenter advertises free-shipping, but doesn't mention how much you have to pay for the pre-order and when it gets charged. I've never ordered from either place. Can anyone recommend one over the other? Does one get inventory quicker than the other generally? Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.
