Benchmade 530/531

I stand corrected. I did order from BladeHQ in the past. It was my Spyderco Chaparral, but that was an in-stock item.

I see that both BladeHQ and KnifeCenter are taking pre-orders for the 531 @ $131.75. BladeHQ only wants $5.00 down and won't charge the rest, until it ships, however it appears they charge for shipping. KnifeCenter advertises free-shipping, but doesn't mention how much you have to pay for the pre-order and when it gets charged. I've never ordered from either place. Can anyone recommend one over the other? Does one get inventory quicker than the other generally? Any guidance you can provide would be appreciated.

You can't go wrong with either of these guys. I know Roger and he is a great guy and runs a good company. I don't know the guys at BF, but I know their reputation.

And in other news...I have handled the new 531 and it is officially a winner. I have been wanting a 530 in g10 handles for a long time. :)

In your opinion is it worth getting a 530 if I'm getting a 531? I don't own either as of yet.

I would wait on the 531. It is a huge improvement (IMO) the blade is more useful and the handles feel incredible. The 530 has the plastickey handles where the G-10 feels like a million bucks.

Just my thoughts.

But it weighs *nothing*! :D

The tip isn't fragile and the blade is excellent. I just love the drop point and am not a huge fan of spear points. I think they made this knife look more menacing than it needed to. But as to usability and toughness, it is very good.

The up-coming 531 has the drop-point, correct?

I am awaiting this knife as patiently as possible. I much prefer the feel of g-10 over noryl gtx or what ever polymer is used. Although I could live with polymer scales, the game changer has to be the the new drop point blade and grind. Like some others I never cared fore the spear point, but always admired the 530 for its thin profile and axis of course.
The 531 is what I wanted to see from the 530. (S30V or more premium steel would knock it out the park).

There have been some limited runs with S30V, and there have been some limited runs with CF. My favorite 530 is the blue REI version with an S30V blade, but obviously everyone is entitled to different preferences on these.

I traded an REI blue away. Liked it a lot, but couldn't get over the spear-point. It is slim light and functional; plus I liked the blue. I'm sure an S30V or better 531 is in our future...

Having owned a few 530's the tip is not weak. One big advantage aside from the weight (or lack of) is just how well the blade slices.
