Benchmade 551-1701 Griptilian DLT Trading Exlcusive

Hi Mako, sorry for delayed response. Both cool folders but the Stryker is my favorite folder in that size/weight range. I carry a 490 or a 940 most days though.

Share pics when you decide.

Hi jazub - thanks for your reply. I ended up buying both, couldn't resist M390+CF and M4+CF, my two favorite steels...eek gads I'm weak. Both are excellent renditions of Benchmade classics, perhaps the best of their respective models. I never cared for the regular Griptilian handles (or any other interation), but this limited CF model changes everything. It elevates the Griptilian. It's solid and substantial yet feels silky smooth and comfortable in hand. Action is fast and smooth, lock up is tight. IMHO this is the Grip to get if you're circling around to buy one.

But I also love the look and feel of the Stryker. Thinner handle but also comfortable. Perhaps Grip is a tad bit more comfy, but not by much. Not normally a big fan of black coated blades (whether DLC or Cerekote), but this one looks fabulous. It just goes together with the overall style; and coating the M4 to help with corrosion resistance makes good sense. Now I don't know which is my favorite. Here's a side by side of my two...

Mine is on the way. Ordered 3 days ago. If this exclusive is done with a sheepsfoot HG blade and spydie hole I'll buy that too. A beautiful knife.

Any update on a potential Mini?

The Mini was in the plans when we had the full size exclusive made. But unfortunately, Benchmade has changed direction on exclusives and has elected to eliminate (at least for the foreseeable future) the dealer exclusives and do more limited editions company wide. As such, there will be no eminent build to of the mini version and when our full sized stock is out we will not have the option to re-run that model.

Sorry to hear about that, but thanks for the update.

Crap. I much prefer the dealer exclusives because they tend to be available for a while. The Benchmade LE knives get sucked up by collectors and speculators before you know it, then show up for inflated prices. Oh well, I guess I'll save some money, but I would have liked a matching Mini.
