Benchmade 556 Mini-Griptilian in M390, S30V, D2, or 154CM

I may have missed it, but there is also the 440C and M2 mini grips.
I think someone mentioned M4 already

Hey Soap! I got mine in the mail today:

I got 26 and 27.
Was your blade very sharp?
No biggie, just wondering.
I love all mini-grips and think I have at least 1 of every steel.
I was and still am I lost a M2 mini grip. Knowing where it was lost and proving it is 2 different things..., man, I wish I could prove it!!

What next after M390?

You know, out of around 15 Benchmades that I own only a couple have been really sharp. This was sharper than most. I agree the mini grip is a nice little knife. I'm trying to hold off on buying the S30V model, but who knows.

Mine came and the blade was aligned correctly, but it had the usual dull factory sharpening job.

It's been a while since I've seen an out of box benchmade that was sharp. The skirmish perhaps?

Heck, the PRC made Pikas come edged better.

Still a nicely built knife.

I'm another one that would have had a complete set if I hadn't gotten rid of my M2 mini grip. Wish I had that one back.

I never had one, but I wish they would do a quick run for those of us that missed it. A 440C version is the only other that I need.

And there are actually three different standard Benchmade blades: tanto, and two others that are similar but slightly different, which BM refers to as modified sheepsfoot and modified drop point, IIRC (the latter two vary according to whether the blade opens with thumb lugs or a Spyderco hole). And about a dozen different color variations over the years, some of which are out of production today. Lots of variables...my personal fave is the Ritter blade but it is temporarily unavailable due to a dealer transition and it costs more than the standard models. You can probably find it pre-owned without looking very far, though, if that's your choice.

Lots of colors and such too..., but the OP was limiting his questions to M390 and S30V...

Is M390 very dent-resistent? I'm not so much concerned with wear/abrasion resistance as much as steel not denting/rolling very easy. Kind of want to get something other than S30V for that reason, and I don't have a Grip yet...

I think M2 is long gone as far as Benchmade is concerned. Interestingly (but for some good reasons), the M4 run did not seem to depress the M2 resale prices.

For those who've bought and received the M390 Mini Grip, how's your blade centering? I have only got a total of five to compare, but of the five, two are perfect (M2) and three are definitely off, one almost rubbing the liner (M4 x2, M390).

Mine is centered very well.

waynejitsu, I am sorry for your loss.
IMHO, the M2 version is by far the best.
I have at least one size in all of the different steels mentioned except for the M390. I EDC both sizes in M2. I liked them so much that I got both sizes in the M4 version too. But, do not find any of them as much to my liking as the M2 version is. JM2C
