Benchmade 586-141 Limited Edition

:foot::foot::foot::foot:
Where is this $700 figure from? There seems to be a lot of outrage over the cost. I can't find anywhere that Benchmade has announced an MSRP. It just seems some one said $700 and then everyone ran with it and there is a lot of outrage over nothing.

Yep, the $700 price tag is wrong BM forgot to account for not offering the discount anymore, it's actually $875

Well, I am afraid that somehow, and for some reason, Benchmade has lost it's way. That is a beautiful knife to say the least, but at that price point it's a joke... The recent increase in prices and that lack of new and innovative designs recently is really a testament to a company that will soon be in trouble IMO. The prices should come down once the sales start dropping, but the lack of innovation and odd decision making (i.e. price increase before X-Mas) are more troubling.

I really like the BM knives I own so I am pulling for them to right the ship. Hopefully soon...

No doubt their change on the MAP pricing before Christmas, was to prelude this knife and its absurd pricing. What Benchmade is probably seeing, is the secondary market inflated prices on their LE offerings and decided it was time to cash in.
Assuming that the knife was priced appropriately for such an offering, somewhere in the $250-300 range, secondary market prices would in all honesty hit the $500 mark once they had all sold.
To some marketing guru at Benchmade, it looks like the market is already primed to bear massively inflated prices, we just need to re-position the pricing and then Bam!

This gives them the ability to be a lower volume higher profit model, as compared to the medium prices higher volume model. Which in turn allows them to have less manpower to maintain the current revenue and saves bundles of money. People (especially Americans) are expensive to employ....

Unfortunately, These knives will sell. Not immediately, but benchmade dealers wont have them in cases for long. Look at the two LE 531's that were released recently. Their price points weren't on par with other competitive options as well. Benchmade is a large company with plenty of resources, they should step up their gold class. My point is that benchmade's gold class shouldnt look like something a garage knife pimper can accomplish. They need to do something to set themselves apart(like KAI's machining). Cool design, just not $700 cool.

Where in this thread did Benchmade give a price in this thread? Nor did I see anyone elucidate the source of that information before I posted my comment. Which is why I asked where the figure was from. I'm not sure the foot in mouth is deserved. I was ill informed, but it certainly did appear that someone just posted the $700 without any indication of where that number came from. So maybe elbow in mouth but not a foot :)

Are you Neuro from over on Benchadeforum? Weren't you banned over there for a period of time for posting non "family friendly" images or am I thinking of someone else?

Wow...you better have your facts straight and accurate before making such an accusation.
You're lucky I'm not a moderator...you'd join the ranks of the "banned" for making such an accusation.

I received the email from BM and the price was included...
I'll not waste my money on the knife though it is a sweet looking knife and the 585 is my favorite size and shape...own two of them, one customized with golden Amboyna scales from Cuscadi and it is an awesome knife at a far lower price.

I have never been banned from any forum nor have I ever posted non family friendly images.
Is this some sort of passive aggressive slander?

Thanks a lot but, please, lets just leave the banning to the moderators since what you did is at least as unnecessary as what OKN did -- which didn't strike me as ban material anyway.

This thread, this sub forum and this forum as a whole has nothing to do with any other forum.

You are way off base and off topic, an apology is in order along with a retraction of your slanderous implication.

You called everyone out before looking it up though. You assumed we were being petty and that we got riled up over nothing. I was mildly annoyed at your post myself.

Yeah, Bladeforums is never petty and whiney. How dare I jump to such a conclusion. My bad. Wait.. your post here is in fact perpetuating this just as much as mine. Lets get back to the outrage... OUTRAGE I SAY over a manufacturer charging what they must think is a marketable price.

Thanks Esav, we have moderation worth being proud of here. As has already been said elsewhere, what happens on another forum should never cross over to another. Let the dust settle, and if it doesn't we got people here to straighten that out. And which is not to be taken for granted, ever.

This is a SERIOUSLY nice knife, I'll be getting one for sure! Great job BM, another fine example of why BM is tops:thumbup:

The 531-132 had an msrp of $650 I believe and I questioned if it was worth the price but just comparing it to the 586-141 I think the 531-132 was a better buy.
You get a new blade grind (from the 530) with stonewashed/acid etched (not coated)M390 blade with complete Titanium stonewashed handles with blue twill G10 inlays.
The 586-141 is basically a 586bk with carbon fiber handles and a ctek inlay.
Remember, the gold class grip had M4 blade and full CF handles at half the msrp iirc.

On another note, I was quoted $550 for a 586-141 from a dealer which shall remain unnamed.

Good analysis Neuron604.

Today, I was pondering getting the 480-131 which I know you have from a previous thread. My price would be a fairly good $480 (MSRP: $650). This is M390 with a beautiful Carbon Fiber handles with polished green abalone onlay and 24 karat gold-plated hardware. Stunning, but I can compare it to my equally stunning 480-1 with M390 and CF which I got for $200!

Yea, the 480-1 is quite the bang for your buck compared to the 480-131. Historically, BM knives with an abalone shell have had premium prices. this knife also comes with a crowned spine and a polished convex edge. It's not worth it compared to the 480-1 but I just couldn't stop looking at the GC version.
