Benchmade 586-141 Limited Edition

Yeah, Bladeforums is never petty and whiney. How dare I jump to such a conclusion. My bad. Wait.. your post here is in fact perpetuating this just as much as mine. Lets get back to the outrage... OUTRAGE I SAY over a manufacturer charging what they must think is a marketable price.

Yeah, I'm looking at your individual post and not Bladeforums's entire history. Unlike you, I didnt assume other members were that petty to roll with a claimed fake MSRP. There is no outrage in my posts. Just that I like the knife very much and am saddened that there is no way that I can afford it. Clear and simple. Why the outrage over other's valid opinions? Is it because your from Oregon and feel it necesseary to defend your hometown BM? We ar BM fans as well just so you know.

Thanks Esav, we have moderation worth being proud of here.

Let's get back on track...

I wonder if part of the cost is related to CTEK being notoriously difficult to work with? I am not a knife customizer but I seem to recall someone saying that it chips easy.

Actually I find it easy to work with.
Chipping isn't really an issue.
This stuff is relatively soft and is directly effected by temp.
If you leave it in your vehicle in the middle of the summer it becomes extremely pliable.

So what exactly IS c-tek? I've googled it unsuccessfully and BM.com has no info

C-Tek is a Thermoplastic not a Thermoset plastic.

Thermoset, or thermosetting, plastics are synthetic materials that strengthen during being heated, but cannot be successfully remolded or reheated after their initial heat-forming. This is in contrast to thermoplastics, which soften when heated and harden and strengthen after cooling. Thermoplastics can be heated, shaped and cooled as often as necessary without causing a chemical change, while thermosetting plastics will burn when heated after the initial molding. Additionally, thermoplastics tend to be easier to mold than thermosetting plastics, which also take a longer time to produce (due to the time it takes to cure the heated material).

Thermosetting plastics, however, have a number of advantages. Unlike thermoplastics, they retain their strength and shape even when heated. This makes thermosetting plastics well-suited to the production of permanent components and large, solid shapes. Additionally, these components have excellent strength attributes (although they are brittle), and will not become weaker when the temperature increases.

Wow. Beautiful work, Keyman.

Yeah, why have a knife with a C-TEK inlay, when you can have the entire scale in C-TEK, and I daresay for less than $700. Although I don't want to imply that I know what Keyman charges for scales, or in any way want to speak for him, I'm kinda betting that he wouldn't be selling so many scales if he was charging $700 for them. ;)

I mean that's a pretty cool knife but $700?? I can buy a completely custom Damascus bladed knife with more exotic handle material direct from one of Benchmade's own designers for the same or most likely less money.

I'm a huge Benchmade head, but their limited/gold class knives are either meh or just exorbitantly priced seemingly more and more.

Wow...that knife is absolutely gorgeous. Everything is beautiful...I almost had an aneurism when I saw those sexy crimson barrel spacers and carbon fiber handles. I would pick that up in a heartbeat...but $700!? C'mon Benchmade! You could get a Damascus bladed Sebenza that would be just as every bit exclusive for that much coin.

Okay I know I'm not supposed to comment or voice a dissenting opinion but I just can't help myself...

So in my assinine opinion, BM seems to be stuck somewhere between Sabenze and Goiber, maybe that's not where they want to be, maybe they don't want to be the "Walmart" of knife companies. I'm not a knife genius like y'all, so please enlighten me, what makes a Sebenzaa so much better than a Benchmade?

To those who keep saying "you could get this or that for that price", yeah, well it won't be a Benchmade, just remember that.

Mods, I will anxiously await my next infraction

How about I just remove you from the site? That seems to your intent....to gloriously flame out. It might be time for you to take a time-out from this thread.
