Benchmade 710 D2

Well, I puzzled over spending that much on a knife (price was my only concern), and after cheaping myself out of it once and not feeling satisfied, I went for it. No regrets. Thanks to F3X for telling me to just buy the freakin' knife! You won't be sorry. It's... amazing. The 710 is one of those knives that just seems different from other production ones... at least to me. Buy it now and save the money because you WILL buy it eventually. It's the 710 curse--once you see it, it will never leave you.:p
Lastly, thanks again to F3X and Esav Benyamin above all else: you guys are great.

I have the 710 with Ti/bone handles and its the only production knife that I'm currently carrying. Great knife, even though its a combo edge...Even with the Ti handles it still carrys well. Wish it had the D2 blade though.

710 is the quintessential Benchmade. Surprisingly small handle for such a big knife. Slips into a pocket easily and the blade shape is perfect for utility. Now if I could only save up for one.

When you hold it, you'll know, it feels right, looks right, I carry it everyday...

I have a 710D2PE and absolutly love it. I take care to clean and dry it regularly because I have heard of rusting problems. Mine came very sharp from the factory and I haven't had to do anything but strop it once in a while.

I like the 710 D2 (and an M2) but not enough to keep either of them. The blade is great and the handle size is fantastic for a large knife (I don't have huge hands and lots of large folders are to big, but the 710 is great). However, I never liked the g10 handles. They felt really slippy to me compared to my frn and spyderco g10 handles. In the end, I just didn't like them enough to justify keeping them.

Has there been any word of any new versions of the 710, such as limited editions?

I haven't heard anything, but I'm in when there are. I did see a LE 710CFM2HSS on the bay for around 400. (I got outbid and missed it).:(

I have both a 705 and 710 and I carry the 710 the most. I have 12 or 13 other benchmades and the 710 always ends up in my pocket. I have the ats34 steel and I have had no problems with it. It takes an edge and holds it. I do have problems getting the tip sharp and keeping a good shape to it though.

Opens easy stays locked and feels good in my hand.

its my favorite user knife. Always take it to work for me. Strong, blade works great for most applications. The g10 is grippy enough but doesnt scratch like some others ive seen. Of the knives i own it is probably my favorite.

I just bought a used 710D2 from a fellow forumite. Its in the mail as of today. The 710 has been on my radar for a while. I have the Cabelas D2 Grip and I know that I really like the performance of thier D2. I am also a big fan of the axis lock. So, this knife should be a delight for me; Right?

I thought I'd bring this tread back so all ya'll 710D2 fans can reassure me in what I expect...to be trilled with this knife.

The question is, "will it knock out my current two favorite EDC clipped knives -ParaMilitary and Mini-Manix?" Although, I have a FRN Endura IV in ZDP-189 clipped in today.

I'd love to hear you comments about the BM710 (love and hate) and any comparisons with the three Spydercos.

Thanks folks!

Many people love it as you can see from this thread. It's ok but not enough for me to own one as I just sold both of my 710 M4 versions on another forum. Everyone needs an AXIS lock though and Benchmade does D2 pretty good.

I guess I am not a fan of the narrow blade and the recurve doesn't help either. This is the first model that the AXIS lock was on and I think it needs to be updated some. When you pull the AXIS bar back you have to pull it all the way back until it touches the liners for the blade to close. Some of the newer ones have twice the amount of 'travel' and just feel better to me. It's hard to put it into words but the 950 Rift and 14205 both have more travel past where the knife actually disengages the blade which gives it a better feel.

But you are getting a good example of Benchmade. Two liners, nice G10 scales and that great AXIS lock. If you don't mind the blade shape then you will probably love it like most others.

i've had one since the introduction. this is a classic like the spyder millie. one knife i would never sell or trade.

The 710 is a great no-nonsense folder. Don't carry the M4 version much but the M2 gets occasional pocket time. For me at least, ergos on the Para are a little better, but the tip-down carry option kinda kills it. That being said, i do carry the Para more.

All in all the 710 is a high quality fodler that will fight for pocket time. Oh and the 4 inches all but disappear when in your pocket.

It is a classic and well deserved. The only thing I miss on it is the ability to get closer to the blade for intricate work if required. It could use a thumb ramp and/or some choils closer to the blade IMHO. Great knife though and I own one!

Great knife for carrying, but it can 'bite' your hand under extended use. The D2 blade will take and hold a super fine edge but with the recurve it's a b*tch to sharpen. The Axis lock is superb. For extended cutting I find my thicker Mini-Rukus more comfortable.

you'll love the Benchmade 710. I myself got addicted to the style and ergonomics of its design. As far as I can tell The pros way outweigh the cons. They include, Axis lock, handling, feel, and material. I see some have issue with d2 steel. But other than that I feel the design is perfect.

I know I've posted this before but here again is my 710 collection. I have added a plain edge d2 version since I took this.
