Benchmade 808 Loco Axis Lock

I like the Loco and would buy another. The scales make it easier to carry then the 950, which I owned and sold. While it's bigger than I am used to, when compared to the 710 in the above posting, it's just as easy to carry. I vote for the 808.

That's one thing I wondered about was how it carried in pocket with the curved handle. Also what sort of options is there for customization? That's one thing I consider when purchasing a edc because I do like to customize with scales and such. I like kinda making it my own so to speak.

There's no denying that it's pretty big in the pocket; it's a big, thick knife after all. That said, I think it does carry pretty well for its size. The handle tapers down pretty small at the butt end, so it doesn't interfere with getting your hand in your pocket as much as you might expect. I replaced the factory clip with a ti clip that carries even lower and that helps even more. The clip covers the lanyard hole, but that's a non-issue for me. Any of the plethora of aftermarket low rider clips that fit the standard Benchmade pattern work since the two hole pattern on the Loco is the same as the two outer holes on the more typical Benchmade 3 hole pattern.

I know that Keyman is making custom scales for the Loco; in fact I've had an order in with him for quite a while. Hopefully I'll be coming to the top of his list soon. I haven't purchased any scales from him prior to these, so I don't have first-hand experience with the scales themselves, but working with him through the order process went smoothly and he has a great reputation. There probably are other makers out there that are doing Loco scales, but I haven't seen any.

It won't be long now my friend.
I think you will find that it will be worth the wait.
In fact, given the chosen material, I'm pretty stoked about this one myself. ;)

The Loco looks awesome. I really like the larger style stand offs. I think I'll be buying this one soon. And KW has it as one of their "Bonus Buys" too !

808 loco, there's a knife in there somewhere, just like the 810.
Just needs an HSS blade.

Lol. Yeah, thanks. Would you believe that I just hung up with Benchmade not 10 minutes ago to get the answer. I happy to hear that because I love the knife but BK 1 & 2 suck.

After a couple weeks of use, the Cerekote isn't going to look much better. The best and most durable coating is the true DLC.

You maybe right but it's better than BK1 or 2 and I can't get the 808 blade in DLC or I would based all of your opinions on the subject. I love black blades I just can't get used to the wear on the coating. I'm sending my Nitrous Stryker back for a blade replacement because of it. Note to self. Never loan out your knife to anyone. Not even your wife.

DLC coated M4.

Now that's Loco. That'd get shit done

Maybe. The Contego is nice but love the Loco.

I love my Contego. To me it's more loco than the Loco. I'm waiting on a special edition like the knifeworks 710 or 810 or in M4. Bonus points for hard annoyed aluminum scales.

I've been pondering the Loco for awhile. Knifeworks has an exclusive blue scaled Contego but, I handled one the other day and the jimping is tough. Too tough in fact. I could Dremel the edges down but, I'd rather not take all that time to do so.

Question: can you really flick this open as fast as a thumb studded Axis? I'm used to Spydies and all but, wondering how the deployment is on this knife.

Regarding the blade finish? Cerakote is not DLC and will wear but, the best part about having a BM knife is when your blade gets ratty looking, send it back and for another $30-$40 you get a new blade. I must say, the grinding marks on my satin finished BM's bother me. I'm a huge fan of stonewashed blades and wished BM offered this option on all their knives. A hard user like the Loco would be an ideal fit for a SW blade IMO. I admit it, I hate scratches but, when you have a SW blade they become part of the finish and character.
