Benchmade 810 Contego

Let's not bash Cypress. He has stated his intention to test. Even Ankerson does it as well (or rather, did. I heard he's stopped doing that hard use test). Manix 2 was improved based on his feedback.

Glad to know which part of the knife is the weak link, even though i don't like the overall design ;).

you find yourself somewhere you didn't expect to be, with only one tool to do the job and that tool happens to be a folder... that's when you use a folder to baton

Good review. I have a feeling your probably a funny guy to be around. And I personally like reviews that show extreme use. It may not be realistic or what it's made to do but "I"enjoy them. Also Who ever designed the handle must have had a bad experience with dropping a knife.

HOLY CRAP... After being pounded through an oak 2x4 for over 30 seconds, that knife STILL shaves effortlessly. I am so glad i got a contego!

While I agree with and practice the "only baton a folder unlocked", note that Benchmade has several videos of them batoning folders in locked position, including the 810. Batoning starts around 2:30. If Benchmade can do it and display it to the world, they're implying that you, me and the OP can do it too!

This knife has the second highest Chatillon score that I've seen them advertise. The Adamas is the only folder that has gotten higher torque values, but it also has a beefed-up Axis bar.

You also make a good point about them showing batonning. I'll probably never use my 810 to baton again, but it's still nice to know it can ( at least for a little while). I might just go for broke and see if I can't chop a tree down with the darn thing. I'm not above eating the cost and buying another.

Does that mean I can cut a car in half with my Cold Steel folder and expect warranty coverage when it breaks? :)

Personally, I wouldn't do half the things that the OEMs do in videos. At least not with a knife that *I* paid for. I don't see the point of "testing" a knife to destruction, but that's just me. I have no problem with you guys destroying yours and posting pics/vids of the carnage. ;)

A little late but had to drop in and comment on that slick AA shirt!

Nice review, by the way. This is a blade I can't afford at the moment, but I would certainly like to try it someday.

Thanks, man! I definitely recommend the knife. As long as your pockets are deep, it carries pretty small. Feels about like a Paramilitary 2.

my contego was already incredibly sharp when i got it, but being a good (reads insane) knife lover, i decided to put a strop to it. 30 seconds on each side, 15 each with green loaded, and bare leather, and it is literally hair splitting sharp.

i love this knife. It's getting more pocket time than my customs
