Benchmade 940-1501 vs Spyderco Para-Military2 S110V : Which would you prefer ?

I've handled a 940-1 and wasn't really blown away by the size or blade shape. Additionally, it seems a bit too teensy to have such a thick blade - it's like having a swiss army knife with a 0.20" blade stock.

I'm glad to see someone else say this. Personally, I love the 940 design, but for such a narrow blade it's absurdly thick. Would love a Ritter-ized or FFG version, but I'd have to pay far too much to make it a reality. Everyone clamors on about blade:handle ratio and ease of pocketability, but neither matters if the blade in question just isn't effective.

The G10 on the PM2 S110V looks a little purplish from the KW pics. Hopefully in person it's more dark blue like the description reads.

I dunno, they both look pretty awesome. I have previous versions of both. 940 excels as a gentleman's knife, the para as a workhorse. I think I like the 940 better tho. It has sliced as well as my para2.

PM2 - I like the design better, and they are infinitely more easy to disassemble and reassemble.

Another thing to consider is that Benchmade sends external replacement parts such as clips for free. You can also do a blade exchange/swap for $30 I believe. Spyderco will not replace a blade. They will only regrind it.

It seems to me that the new S110V PM2 is sort of a pm2 "lightweight" based on the description.

Does anyone know what is the Rockwell hardness on Spyderco's s110v knives?

Also, I saw on BHQ there is a M4 sprint coming as well. As far as a lightweight, I was wrong. They just made the description seem like an update to the current, when it was really about the update from the PM1

Yeah, that threw me off at first too.

Hey guys, sorry to dig up a dead thread but I'm having a similar debate right now between the S110V paramilitary and the 940-1.

Now that the PM has been available a bit longer and the discussion is less speculative, would you guys still pick it over the 940-1?

This knives do different things from each other.

Ease of sharpening, carry, closing blade, warranty, lack of scaring the public and attractivness goes to the 940-1501 (this is a 940-1)

The PM2 S110v blows 20cv away with wear resistance. It's actually the most wear resistant production knife steel available, lots of cool factor there. The blade has a better grind for slicing and deployment is the fastest. The handle is great for large hands and has a few cool ways to hold it.

It all depends on how you like to use your knives.

I prefer the 940 (whichever variant). A perfect everyday carry, imo, and a more robust blade in a tighter package.

Sold the PM2 that I had and didn't look back. That delicate tip made me nervous to ever use at work since Spyderco doesn't offer blade replacement. I could reconsider one down the road as long as it was a lightest-use type knife for general non-work applications.
