Benchmade Adamas 275 vs Spyderco PM 2

Alright folks, ive narrowed it down to two choices. The Adamas 275 or the PM 2. Both seem to be well liked by anyone who has owned them. The Two are very different. I know the Adamas is a TANK of a knife, but I am not concerned by the weight of an EDC blade. Im 6'5 , so a few extra ounces on a knife isnt going to bother me much. And i also know the PM2 is an amazing slicer, and are known for their sharp edges. The Adamas uses D2 metal and the PM2 uses s30V.

Now which knife do you guys think will suit best for an EDC?

Besides the weight, the adamas is quite thick in the blade and handle. I like a big handle but it's really overkill for edc. Most spydercos will cut circles around the adamas in regular edc tasks because of their thinner blades.

The adamas takes up a lot of room in the pocket too.

Pm2 wins no contest for me, but the military is even better since it has a nice long handle for secure grip in large hands.

Im a huge benchmade fan but the para wins hands down for edc. Unless you have some unusual edc tasks?

I'm a Benchmade fan as well,,but the PM2 wins on steel/ergos/geometry.....
Adamas would probably win on lock strength,, but that's speculation

Depends on what you do with your knives. I love my Adamas, it's a folding wrecking bar that happens to have an edge, but the grind gets too thick too quickly if you do much cutting that passes the height of the blade through the cutting media. It's really designed for borderline abuse and it holds up to that kind of stuff like a champ, but a great cutter it ain't. The Para 2 is a whole lot more refined. It's certainly not the best slicer out there, but it's a very competent and versatile cutting tool. I actually find the Adamas the more comfortable of the two, but I have very large hands and sincerely appreciate a wide handle.

The thing that personally bugs me about the Para2 is the lack of cutting length you get for the size of the whole package. I vote BM on this one.

I have both and carry my Adamas far more.
*If* you are willing to take a little time and convex the edge
the Adamas slicing ability improves exponentially.
The 275 will take a lot more abuse and I just like it.
If you're just gonna run factory edges and call it a
day then I'd either carry a second knife for fine slicing
(Such as a traditional slipjoint) or get the Pm2.
Even though I prefer the Adamas, Spyderco makes
a heck of a blade.

If you're 6'5" and are looking to carry a knife, you should at LEAST carry a spyderco military, if not a Cold Steel Espada extra large. At your size, it won't look big, it will just look normal!

If you're going to carry tiny knives that look like toothpicks in your hands, PM2 hands down.

Zero

that adamas was just too thick for me, i had to sell mine off, though im only 5'9. the spyderco paramilitary is just way more practical as an everyday EDC.

Adamas is a HUGE knife compared to the PM2. It is not even a straight comparison since both are different knives. Adamas is more like a heavy duty knife you can beat on, has D2 blade which is a non-stainless steel and not a very good slicer. PM2 has smaller FFG S30V (unless you get a Sprint run) stainless blade , great slicer but has a pretty fragile tip. The Adamas is more than twice the weight of a PM2, my suggestion for me is the PM2 is a better EDC blade for my specific daily tasks. If you are going to be out in the field and need to split wood with your folder, I suggest the 275 Adamas as it can take the abuse, if your just using it to cut some boxes and occasional food prep the PM2 will be a better option.

I suggest a Benchmade 940 which is a better comparison to the PM2. Has a the benchmade Axis lock, very light weight, good blade length and S30v. Or like a few suggested a Spyderco Military is better suited due to your size

The pm2 has a fine sized handle for large hands. Great size for edc and occasional hard use. Much better value for the money.

So what it comes down to is the sheer power of the Adamas vs the finess and precision of the PM2?. HMM I guess I have some thinking to do. Just for giggles, what do you folks think if I threw the Benchmade Axis 300 with these two?

I would go with either of the other two instead.

If you want a compromise between the Adamas and PM2 take a look at the H&K 14715. It will cut and carry better than the Adamas while still giving you a tougher package than the PM2. It also gives you a lot of knife for under $100.

If your 6'5" I doubt the 300 will fit your hand well. Nice knife and still probably usable for you but I've been through many different knife models and the adamas is still is my top 3 favorite folders and gets carried at least 50% of the time. I've been through many paras and none have stayed. I'd rather have something from cold steel like the Hold Out. Will out slice ,stab ,slimmer, xhp steel, and more durable than para. If had to pick one folder to do it all, more than likely would be the Adamas. If you haven't looked at ZT'S would do that also.

PS if you plan on pocket carrying,275 might not be the best choice. Definition of pocket brick. Carrys prefect in the molle sheath it comes with though. I wear a BM molle sheath daily.

I love my Adamas! I use it for slicing and dicing and it works just fine! I think you should also look at the 810 Contego! It is strong and has an awesome EDC blade, in a thinner package!

Here is the Adamas in hand!

I own both and like them a lot. The main differences have already been pointed out, I think your wardrobe will dictate the choice. I live in a very warm and humid area, and usually wear pants made out of thin fabrics (even in winter), so the Adamas feels a bit bulky in those pockets. In jeans or thick slacks it actually carries really well for its size.

Although out of the two the Adamas is probably my favourite (it just feels amazing in my hands and the axis lock is buttery smooth), I find the PM2 to be a more versatile knife, I can carry it in every single pair of pants I own, from thin dress pants to jeans. It's strong enough for a folder, the tip is a bit thin but that has its advantages.

Have both, like both. For EDC, PM2 hands down.

If you're interested in the Adamas, another hard use EDC to consider is the 810 Contego. Not as beefy as an Adamas, but it can take some abuse too.

Hate to muddy the waters even more, but here goes......check out the BM 908. I have the KSF LE, 908-1501, and it reminds me of a junior Adamas. Amazing knife and a better EDC than the Adamas.
If you're going to stick to the original 2 listed....PM2 all the way! There is an amazing LE available at Cutlery Shoppe! Black coated XHP with orange scales.....excellent looking PM2!!
Good luck!
Joe
